Netansett: Difference between revisions

Netanic literature is among the oldest and most well-preserved indigenous pre-Occidental forms of literature in Crona thanks to their relatively early adoption of a standard writing system by Crona standards. Although the Netanic alphabet, which itself was based off of Netanic glyphs, has largely been supplanted by the Latin-based Occidental alphabet ever since Netansett asserted its full sovereignty from Porfiria through a treaty in 1940, conversion tables between both alphabets are not only readily available, but are also regularly taught in Netanic schools.

Netansett has no {{wp|state religion}} as per the Constitution, mostly due to influence from the majority-Christian Kiravia when the Constitution was drafted in 1839, but there exists provisions that designate "the Netanic interpretation of the M'acunist faith" as "the rightful and national religion of the Netanic people from the forging of this document and onward to perpetuity". However, because of Kiravia's influence and, since 2010, because of the increasing influence of the Occident the M'acunist faith has largely fallen to the wayside in terms of it being the religion of the Netanic people, many of whom have embraced a form of secular nationalism as the importance of being of ethnic Netanic ancestry, even partially, became much more important to the Netansetts than adherence to a specific religious denomination. As such, it is in fact not unusual to find ultra-nationalistic Netansetts who are also highly-devoted adherents to the Catholic Church whether it be of the Coscivian Rite or of the rapidly-growing Latin Rite. Recent polls have had as little as less than fifteen percent of the Netanic population stating that they feel that M'acunism is the rightful faith of the Netansetts and even less consider themselves to be active M'acunists.

Census-taking in Netansett happens once every five years since 1900, but the enumeration of race and ethnicity has been removed from censuses since 1940 after Netansett secured economic and political independence from Kiravia. International observers have theorized that the Netanic government has stopped enumerating based on race and ethnicity so as to obfuscate the fact that non-Netanic people are generally discriminated against with restrictions on civil liberties and political rights. According to the 2030 census, over 93% of the population are of Netanic nationality, meaning that that portion of the population are considered to be full citizens of Netansett. This, however, does not take into account the ethnic origins of a Netanic citizen, just the legal status of a given resident of Netansett. The remaining portion of the population are mostly Kiravians and other Occidentals who reside in Netansett, a majority of whom being advisors to the Netanic government on matters of Occidentalization and modernization policies. while the rest of whom are Occidental construction workers in charge of building up infrastructure in Netansett that meet the standards of the great powers of the Occident as well as setting up the infrastructure needed for new uranium mines.

Netansett's censuses do not enumerate based on linguistic abilities, though there does exist an non-government entity, the [[Quonish Academy of Linguistics and Culture]], that does enumerate based on linguistic abilities. According to QALC's latest linguistic report, which was published in 2032, approximately 97.8 percent of the population of Netansett are "proficient and fluent" speakers of the Quonish language, with the remaining 2.2 percent having a "less than proficient and fluent grasp" on Quonish. The QALC has often been noted by international observers for being relatively biased towards Netanic nationalism, often inflating the amount of Quonish speakers who are considered to be "proficient and fluent" speakers while greatly downplaying the amount of "less than proficient and fluent" speakers of Quonish. Because of these perceived biases, most QALC reports are often rejected by other linguistic institutions and even by the Netanic government due to the lack of professionalism.
