Malentina was historically a notable [[North Songun civilization]] before their collapse. Although severely hurt by the collapse, Malentina came out of it in better shape than most others, in large part thanks to its relative security from [[Zurgite Varshan|Varshani]] [[The Hunt (Varshan)|Hunts]]. During the 18th century Malentina became a somewhat important colony for the [[Ardmori people#Ænglo-Ardmori|Ænglish]]-descended settlers from [[Ardmore]] as they settled the mostly unsettled, or as some argue abandoned, island of [[Hileenkop]]. This would lead to numerous conflicts between the Ænglo-Ardmori settlers, the [[Maaleen People|Maaleen]] and [[Tinuud People|Tinuud]] natives, and the latter's North Songunese and Qabóri allies until the mid-19th Century, known as the [[Canoe Conflicts (Malentina)|Canoe Conflicts]].

==Military==

The Malentine military has largely been a shadow of its former self. A nation that is located on the very islands that were once so heavily focused on their ability to project naval power and punch very far above their own weight to the point of actually having the ability to contest the military prowess of neighboring nations in the region now only maintains a small and basic land-based military force with very little, if any, military tradition and presently has been suspected of large-scale corruption. It has only been since the early 2000s that the Malentine government has started to give its armed forces some much-needed upgrades, mostly through taking in equipment and aid from Tierrador, so as to combat perceived interference from the Arcer government. Because of this initiative, however, relations between Arcerion and Malentina have greatly deteriorated to the point of nearly causing a war if not for international mediation preventing things from going hot. The military upgrades were also done to allow for Malentina to crack down on indigenous nationalist insurgency groups without the need to rely on as much foreign military intervention as they used to in previous years.
