Germais Time is a Burgoignesc luxury watchmaker. The company designs, manufactures, distributes, and services wristwatches sold under the Germais and Gran Primi brands.

History

Renaissance Switzerland here

In the late 1680s Anthonee-Joan Brutus Germais added a balance spring to the balance wheel of his . This innovation increased Germais watches' accuracy enormously, reducing error from perhaps several hours per day to perhaps 10 minutes per day, resulting in the addition of the minute hand to the face in 1691. At the outbreak of the Great War Germais approached the Navy of Burgundie with a bid proposal for 3,000 wristwatches for the officers of the navy with radium painted hands, and leather band that had the timezones of the Levantine Ocean embossed on it. The "Le Lumineur Naval" was an immediate hit and the Army of Burgundie ordered 700 with plain leather bands, termed "Le Lumineur Terrior".

Innovations

Among the company's innovations are:

  • The first watchmaker to add a balance spring to the balance wheel 1687.
  • The first watchmaker in Dericania to add a minute hand to the face of their watches 1691.
  • The first watchmaker to earn chronometer certification for a wristwatch 1910
  • The first waterproof wristwatch "l'Uistre", 1926
  • The first wristwatch with an automatically changing date on the dial 1945
  • The first wristwatch case waterproof to 100m (330ft) 1953
