The National Central Library System is a series of several major public libraries and museums in Faneria which collectively function as a National library. Such National Libraries hold a variety of items of all genres and media, though each specializes in particular types of collections and all sites share an electronic backup system which also functions as a shared legal depository. The decision to anoint several locations as National Libraries after the Fhainnin Revolution originated from concerns about holding records and literature in a singular place, as pervasive Royal-era practices of destroying historic literature and creating new literature and records from whole cloth made submission to any officially-recognized library dangerous. As a result, the distinct divide between private and public libraries in Faneria required measures to ensure the acceptance of increased centralization of knowledge in the hands of the government. Since 1948, the National Libraries have eclipsed private libraries in size within Faneria.
Collectively, the physical archives of the National Libraries are the third largest in the world after the Caphirian Imperial Archives and Urcean Capital Library, and the electronic archives are also third largest after the Urcean Capital Library and the Kiravian Media Conglomeration Center (though the latter intentionally contains PoTo, an otherwise-extinct computer virus which solely exists to bloat file sizes, to punish illegal downloads).
National Libraries Sites in Faneria
Oirthidún Civil Arts and Sciences Library
The Civil Arts and Sciences Library is the leading depository of legal works in Faneria, and holds the Assembly Wing, which houses the primary physical copies of the Four Codes as well as case references, curated legal and historic documentation, and other materials for Assembly members and other government officials. Though the information is available more readily and with more context electronically in the National Central Library network, the physical records present allow for thorough examination of original sources and access to further notes and better verification. The Civil Arts wing of the library also houses the original copies of the 1830 Royal and 1909 Republican Constitutions.
Peoples' National Grand Library
Located in Rihsport, the Peoples' National Grand Library is the former Grand Royal Library, which operated as an archive for works which were not publicly available but for various reasons were preserved from historic purges. The archives were partially damaged intentionally during the Siege of Rihsport, but the Grand Library remained a major key in undoing centuries of historic revisionism during the early Republican era. The PNGL is a primarily historic and nonfiction archive, but also has large wings dedicated to Coscivian and Transisthmus media and culture.
Teindún National Library
The Teindún National Library is the largest singular library complex in Faneria by land space, and houses a large collection of physical books, including fiction and nonfiction, as well as an enormous physical museum of artifacts and objects
Leighlinbridge National Sciences Library
Leighlinbridge National Sciences Library is the primary research library in the country, and was constructed for the purpose in the 2010s to capitalize on the tech boom of its city.
Aucey National Cultural Library
The Aucey National Cultural Library holds large wings of fiction media, as well as sections dedicated to various regional cultures within Faneria and regions formerly possessed by Faneria, as well as some international artifacts and media. The construction of the Aucey branch in the 1990s was intended as an olive branch for separatist regions after the Vandarch Canal Crisis, and played a significant part of the Transisthmus Peace Process. A separate bomb plot was foiled during construction, with the last threat to the building being issued in 2013. The building was constructed in a Pelaxo-Cartadanian shingled style, which was popular new housing construction in Namhe and Culriocha at the time.
Cancale National Technical Library
The Cancale National Library specializes in storing physical records of patents and copyrights, as well as other types of machine specifications and nonfiction. It also became the first of the National Libraries to receive a Feallsanrih supercomputer in 1996.
