Alazán Relay One Team was founded in 1958 by Pelaxian businessman and motorsport enthusiast Esteban Montserrat, backed by the state-supported automotive conglomerate Carrocerías Nacionales de Pelaxia. The team’s name, "Alazán" comes from a distinct breed of horse native to Pelaxia. Montserrat envisioned a Pelaxian team that could not only compete in the top echelons of motorsport but also test innovative mechanical and technical ideas. Alazán made its Formula 1 debut in the 1959 Pelaxian Grand Prix, a landmark event as it was the first time a Pelaxian team competed in Relay One on home soil. The debut season, however, proved challenging. Alazán is considered one of the traditional and legendary racing teams of the circuit and has become a symbol of elegance and national pride.

History

Origins

Alazán made its debut in Relay One in 1959, entering the world of motorsport during a period when R1 teams were just beginning to experiment with more sophisticated engineering and aerodynamic designs. Founded by Pelaxian engineer Rafael Arellano, and businessman and motorsport enthusiast Esteban Montserrat and supported by industrialist Santiago Solana, Alazán’s initial goal was simple: to bring Pelaxian engineering prowess to the international racing circuit. However, the project was ambitious and required significant resources, leading to the involvement of the Pelaxian government.

During this era, the government of Pelaxia viewed Alazán as an opportunity to showcase the nation’s industrial and technological capabilities. As a result, Alazán received considerable state support, both financially and in terms of access to research facilities. In a post Great War era, the government saw Alazán as a symbol of national pride, and its success in international motorsports would serve to elevate Pelaxia’s image on the global stage.

In the early years, the team faced challenges competing against established Levantine teams. Nevertheless, with state funding and technical assistance, Alazán quickly gained recognition for its meticulous engineering and the aggressive racing style of its drivers. By the mid-1960s, Alazán secured several podium finishes and achieved its first victory in the 1967 Pelaxian Grand Prix.

Golden Era with State Partnership (1970-1985)

During the early 1970s, the Pelaxian government remained deeply involved, viewing Alazán as a national project rather than just a private team. The administration of the time used Alazán as a way to promote Pelaxian industry and innovation, funneling resources into advanced automotive technologies and attracting top engineers within the country. Under the leadership of team principal Ignacio Mendoza and the technical direction of Pelaxian engineer Mateo Roca, Alazán developed some of the most competitive cars on the grid. During this period, Alazán’s close ties to the Pelaxian government provided not only financial support but also access to military-grade technology and research facilities. This collaboration with state agencies allowed Alazán to innovate in areas such as aerodynamics and materials science, giving them a competitive edge.

With state backing, Alazán reached its peak in the 1970s, securing multiple Grand Prix victories and becoming a regular contender for the Constructors' Championship. The team's most notable success came in 1975, when Alazán driver Luis Santoro won the Drivers' Championship, becoming the first Pelaxian to achieve this honor. The 1975 season marked a turning point, cementing Alazán as a premier team in Relay 1.

Achievements and Legacy

Philosophy and Brand

The Alazán Relay One Team is linked to Pelaxia's motorsport identity and technical engineering prowess. The name was inspired by the Alazán horse breed, a symbol of grace, endurance, and strength, the team embodies these qualities both on and off the track. While Alazán is often associated with luxury and high-performance, the team strives to be recognized as a brand representing technical expertise and blue-collar "garra motada" ingenuity and passion. This dual identity is reflected in their commitment to pushing the boundaries of engineering and contracting mostly Pelaxian drivers, mechanics and engineers, while also maintaining a sophisticated and refined aesthetic.

The brand's commitment to technical precision is evident in every facet of their car design. Engineers and designers work tirelessly to push the boundaries of performance while maintaining a sophisticated and refined aesthetic. This dedication to elegance is reflected in the aerodynamic lines of their car, while the Pelaxian effervescence is showcased by the team's conduct within the high-pressure environment of Relay One. For Alazán, success is more than just victories on the track. It's about representing Pelaxia with dignity, sophistication, and a relentless pursuit of technical excellence.
