In the year 1661 an Islamic mystic by the name of [[Haśem Xosséın]] arrived by accident in the island with a few companions, their ship having sunk in a storm. Xosséın proceeded to successfully spread Islam to the people of Truk who were impressed with the tales of ancient conquests by Muslim armies.
