Petroleum production in Cartadania is a major industry which is important to not only the national economy, but the economy of Sarpedon and trade partners alike. Cartadania has the third-largest oil reserves in the world and is the world's largest oil producer and oil exporter, with an average daily production of 1,979,390 cubic metres per day (12,450,000 bbl/d) of crude oil and equivalent, contributing roughly 17% of the global need. The largest portion of Cartadania's petroleum is exported to other nations, both raw and refined.

Cartadania produces two grades of crude oil, based on the two petroleum regions within the country. The western portions of Cartadania and off-shore western drilling fields produce Natiserve Meridian grade, a light sweet grade described as light because of its low density and sweet because of its low sulfur content. It accounts for 61% of Cartadania's crude production. The other grade, produced in the eastern portions and drilled within Lake Parima is the toponymously named Parima Select, a medium sour crude type.
