University of Alexandria

The University of Alexandria (UniAl or UAL) is a public research university in New Venceia, Alexandria, Cartadania. The University of Alexandria's endowment is among the 10 largest endowments in the nation. As of 2037, UAL's student body is the largest in Alexandria and the fourth largest in Cartadania. UAL's designation as a land, sea, and space grant institution–the only university in Alexandria to hold all three designations–reflects a range of research with ongoing projects funded by organizations such as the Cartadanian National Aerospace Administration (AANC), the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Office of Naval Research. In 2001, the University of Alexandria was inducted as a member of the Association of Cartadanian Universities. The school's students, alumni—over 650,000 strong—and sports teams are known as Titans. The UAL Titans athletes compete in 18 varsity sports as a member of the Oceanic Conference.

The first public institution of higher education in Alexandria, the school opened on November 30, 1680, as the Polytechnic Institute and State University of Alexandria. Originally, the college taught classes in classical studies, languages, literature, and applied mathematics. After four years, students could attain degrees in scientific agriculture, civil and mechanical engineering, and language and literature. To reflect the institution's expanded roles and academic offerings, the Alexandria Legislature renamed the school to the University of Alexandria in 1900.

The main campus is one of the largest in Cartadania, spanning 2,200 acres (9 km²). About one-fifth of the student body lives on campus. UA has more than 1,000 officially recognized student organizations. Many students also observe the traditions, which govern daily life, as well as special occasions, including sports events. Working with various UAL-related agencies, the school has a direct presence in each of the 117 counties in Alexandria. The university offers degrees in more than 150 courses of study through ten colleges and houses 18 research institutes.

The University of Alexandria varsity athletic teams participate in the ICSA's Division I FBS as a member of the Oceanic Conference. The University has won national championsips in football, women's gymnastics, association football, baseball, tennis, gold, and women's swimming and diving.

The Titans' most historic rivalry is with the nearby Alexandria State Hornets. However, major rivalries have grown since, including the rivalry with the Verona Tech Tigers, and with Aralina Phoenixes.

The university also hosts several non-varsity sports, including wrestling, crew, ultimate frisbee, rugby, lacrosse, and ice hockey.
