The abundance of muddy freshwater pools and ditches with plentiful weed growth in Knassania have made it a leading supplier of {{wp|Hirudo medicinalis|medicinal leeches}}. Originally, leeches were harvested manually by {{wp|Leech collector|dedicated gatherers}} directly from the bush. Leech gatherers were most often Urom tribeswomen or indigent Pine Swamp Coscivians. Although demand for medicinal leeches has declined in modern times, there remain a handful of leech "plantations" where the creatures are cultivated intensively for niche medical applications and folk medicine. | |||
