TBD

The 2034 Arcerion Federal Election will take place on or before February 15, 2034 to elect Members of Parliament to the Confederate Parliament of Arcerion.

The date of the electoral vote will be determined by the provisions within the Arcerion Elections Act, which requires that federal election organized and conducted by the Electoral Service of Arcerion will be held not before the fifteenth day of the second month of the year, in this case 2034. As encoded in the Arcer constitution, this election takes place within the 4-year election cycle of Arcerion's federal government.

The election may occurr before the given date should the incumbent Prime Minister, Iain Donnegal, call for a dissolution of Parliament (with the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Arcerion's concurrence). As well, the election could take place before the assigned date should the Confederate Parliament conduct a vote of non-confidence against the sitting government. This is unlikely to occur however due to the Arcerion Reform Party's majority status.

The election will use the existing 161-constituency map of Arcerion based across its five governorates.

Background

The 2030 Arcerion Federal Election, held on February 12th that year saw relatively little change for the sitting majority from the Arcerion Reform Party. The incumbent sitting government under the leadership of Prime Minister Iain Donnegal remained in office, as they had since the 2018 Arcerion Federal election. Prime Minister Donnegal also carried the popular vote during the 2030 election. The Liberal Coalition of Arcerion lost fifteen seats, mostly to the Arcerion National Party but managed to remain in their position as the Official Opposition in Parliament.

On August 31st, 2033 Prime Minister Donnegal announced that he would not be seeking re-election. The following day on September 1st, the Arcerion Reform Party released a statement that Jack Tomlinsion-Gray, the Member of Parliament for Easthampton Central would be the interim party leader and likely federal election candidate for the upcoming federal election.

  Arcerion Reform Party: 114 seats

Issues

The major issues for the election as determined by public opinion polls done by the Arcerion Broadcast Service, were a mixture of domestic issues such as a growing international pressure to adopt green and renewable energy despite large Arcer fossil fuels reliance, as well as international issues such as Foreign Policy relating specifically to diplomatic rapprochement with The Cape and Tierrador.

Energy

Arcerion's energy sector, despite a growing number of green energy sources such as renewable energy and nuclear power continues to face pressure under international legislation, primarily form the League of Nations on renewable energy sources and the limiting of fossil fuels. It was seen by many political commentators as a strategic decision by the Arcerion Reform Party to run with Jack Tomlinson-Gray as the front runner for the centre-right party as Easthampton is a heavy coal mining municipality and one of the centres of Arcerion's fossil fuels sector. As well, concerns about the impacts to the economy of Howland Governorate, which is predominantly based on the extraction, refinement, and processing of liquid natural gas and oil from the Albion Sea Gas Fields was of great concern to Arcer votes. The Arcerion Reform Party reiterated its stance as "pro-Arcer energy" which political commentators defined as being ambivalent to international legislation, and non-committal to binding resolutions from the League of Nations. This stance was taken further by the Arcerion National party, who avowed to "double-down" on Arcerion fossil fuels as an industry, including mining. Adverse to this, the Liberal Coalition of Arcerion unrolled a strong plan to pursue more renewable and non-nuclear sources of power, such as wind and solar. When questioned on their hesitation to condone an expansion of nuclear energy, Jeffery B. York, the Party leader described the party's position as "..not opposed to nuclear power but not interested in further investment from the federal government at this time, as there is better alternatives available."
