Governorates of Zaclaria

Governorates (ostān) are the highest level administrative divisions of Zaclaria. Currently, there are 15 Governorates that are headed by a governor (ostāndār), appointed by the prime minister, subject to approval by the Ministry of State. The governor is responsible for administration, health, social services, education, tourism, public works, transportation, domestic trade, agriculture, industry, civil defense, and maintenance of law and order in the governorate. The minister of local administration works closely with each governor to coordinate and supervise local development projects. The governor is assisted by a provincial council, all of whose members are popularly elected for five-year terms.
For administrative purposes, the Zaclarian government groups Governorates together into five administrative regions (manâteq). Governorates are further divided into regions (šahrestān) and subdivided into districts (baxš) and sub-districts (dehestān).
