The Cartesian Republic is a country in Crona. It is neighbored by Alstin primarily and is adjacent to Varshan.
Etymology
The original Varshani term for the island was Apanca Cuahtla, roughly translated as the barren island; a description that was based on the island's use as a place of exile rather than related a lack of vegetation. The Carto-Pelaxians who settled during the 17th century were unable to pronounce the local dialect so the name morphed over time into Anta Carda.

History
Original settlement
The island of Anta Carda was used for centuries by the Zurgs of Varshan as a place to exile their opponents and other outcasts and caste malcontents not fit for glorious sacrifice. The island's population was left to its own devices provided they did not try to leave, and the island had plentiful resources that the exiles could build communities of their own. Despite the lack of presence of mainland authorities, the islanders maintained their belief of Orthodox Arzalism and the worship of the Death God by sacrificing wild pigs instead of humans. During the Chakor dynasty, the island became part of the appanage of reigning Zurg's heir, albeit a dilapidated one. During the reign of Atlenemik, a strong conflict arose with his son and heir Otzimo over the nature of Arzalism; Otzimo was forced from the mainland by his father. Otzimo remained in Anta Carda for fifteen years and began to build it up as a long term seat of power. He began construction of the town of Mixtli (today called San Eugenio) and set up an administrative structure to raise taxes, parcel out land for crops and create a warrior caste for the island. Upon the eventual reconciliation of the Zurg and Otzimo, he requested that his island fief no longer
