Elected Prime Leader

Charles LeMieux
Yellow Party

The 2034 Austro-Caldera Prime Leader election was the first ever election in Austro-Caldera's history to feature multiple parties running for Prime Leader as opposed to just the Volkspartei. This resulted in massive political division as voters struggled to unite behind a singular political party, and a plethora of parties were considered runner ups. Early polls seemed to indicate that the Volkspartei was likely to win, except in the Western province where the Yellow Party performed considerably well.

Issues in this election were mostly based around Volin equality and foreign policy, particularly around countries like Canespa and Daxia. Adian Vandal discussed unifying Caldera, especially in Bavogia, while Charles LeMieux pledged to dedicate himself to non-Gothic representation and Black Hawk advocated for a complete reform of the Calderan government into a more Volin oriented one.

On election day, Canespian representatives oversaw counting votes. At first, similar to polls, the Volkspartei was still the clear cut winner, as radio hosts would describe the Volkspartei as 'the only party who knows what they're doing'. At around 15:00, the Yellow Party began to see a massive surge in votes particularly coming from Westerners and non-Gothic Calderans. When the election ended, the Volkspartei and Yellow Party were the only 2 parties to have receives more than 20% of votes.

Background

Historically, since Joseph Seuber united Caldera under his form of government, his people enshrined in law that the Prime Leader could only be a member of the Volkspartei in order to make sure that the only leaders were Gothic and competent. Originally, all government dealings had to be Gothic, meaning voters and even government officials in the Volkshaus had to be Gothic. The first change to this rule was in 1658, when provincial governments were created and allowed non-Gothics to vote for non-Volkspartei legislators (but only Gothics could vote for the provincial governor). The next change was in 1735, when the Volkshaus started to allow representatives from all parties if they were elected by a province. In 2003, after riots in Little Caldera, voter laws were modified so that any Calderan citizen of any ethnicity could vote for any political position, including governors of provinces and the Prime Leader of Austro-Caldera. During all this time, the Volkspartei still maintained a special status as the original party, with member's votes being counted at twice the value as any other, Volkspartei members had longer term limits than non-Volkspartei members, and the Volkspartei was often consulted in foreign relations separate from the Volkshaus and Prime Leader.

Starting on June 15th, 2034, Canespa began intense negotiations with the Volkspartei, demanding changes in government otherwise threatening to annex Bavogia. With the goal of unity in mind, Prime Leader Vandal spearheaded the idea of reforming the role of Prime Leader to allow any political party to be elected. The Canasta Company accepted this, with the conditions that the Volkspartei officeholder's special statuses be revoked, Canespa overview the election, and additional rights to fishing in Calderan waters. On June 18th, 2034, the emergency election following the amendment to the constitution of Austro-Caldera was announced, and the next 12 days was filled with rush campaigns as parties struggled to make themselves known by election day. Another important change was that the term limit of Prime Leader was reduced to 5 years from 15.

Nominations

Volkspartei

The Volkspartei's nomination was presumed to be Adian Vandal after the former Prime Leader was elected in 2005 and re-elected in 2020. Vandal's next re-election was slated for 2035, so the emergency election only reduced his term by a year.

The nominee for Yellow Party was voted on June 20th, 2034. Party leader Charles LeMieux won the nomination over party members Dieuse Céline and Luke Johnson.

Volin Reform Party

The Volin Reform Party's nomination was made based on most successful election. Since Black Hawk won the election for mayor of his hometown twice, and won the election to Volkshaus, he was made the nominee.

Ænglish Minority Party

Alexander Billsworth was quickly selected by the Ænglish Minority Party on June 18th, shortly after the emergency election had been called, as Alexander was considered the most charismatic and influencing out of any other member.

Work Harder Party

The Work Harder Party had a rough nomination process, with many of their members fighting tooth and nail to be nominated. Eventually, the nomination came down between two females, Angeline Bruneaux and Frau Engelstein. Angeline won the nomination by revealing to the party that she had worked more hours in her life than her opponent.

The Traditionalist Party decided its nomination based on the oldest (and therefore wisest) member of the party.

Bavogian Freedom Party

The Bavogian Freedom Party made their nomination based on the last successful election, being Good Spirit for Plaza Head of Bavogia in 2025.

Bavogian Kingdom Party

Since the Bavogian Kingdom Party's last successful election in 1795, the party has reformed itself to only seek out powerful positions such as Plaza Head of Bavogia and Prime Leader of Caldera, with the intent to reform either Bavogia or the entire island into a monarchy. The Bavogian Kingdom Party has a very famous backing in media, but with an ironic lack of registered members.

Sirkup Party

Based around honoring the Volinist god Sirkup, the nomination was based around receiving Sirkup's favor, which is done so by consuming a variety of plants from the forest and waiting to see if they were lethal. No one died from the trial, but Mason Sirkupwe was also picked out among others for his last name which means "Son of Sirkup" in Volin.

Deer Party

The nomination of Deer Party was chosen as part of a debate over who loves nature more. The Mayor of Leedstown was able to gain an advantage by referencing several natural parks she opened in her city.

Mashk Party

The Mashk Party, similar to the Sirkup Party, decides nominations based on a trial to prove Mashk's favor. The trial is tedious, consisting of swimming to Canespa and swimming back to Caldera over the course of 2 days. Due to time restraints and the lack of members who wanted to swim so far, the trial was made much easier by applying the use of a canoe. The fastest to row to Canespa and back was Katrina Kontos, tacking only 1 day, 4 hours, 24 minutes, and 34 seconds. The closest runner up was Skelio Kallos who had made the distance in 1 day, 4 hours, 26 minutes, and 13 seconds.

The Free Labor Party's nominee was selected by superiority, being that Ron Swayzee is the leader of the Free Labor Party.

Communist Party of Caldera

Unlike other political parties, the Communist Party of Caldera never intended on having a single nomination. Originally intending to nominate all of their members, the leader of the party talked them down to just 5, and then to 2. The 2 chosen were by random.
