The foreign relations of Carna are Carna's relations with governments and organisations throughout the world. Following the Carnish Revolution and the subsequent establishment of the Union of Carnish Councils, Carna's relations became increasingly coloured by its Bairdist ideology. Between the 1950s and 1980s, Carna entered a period of significant hostility with other nations, as most world powers, particularly Urcea, sought to see the Carnish Union overthrown and the Carnish monarchy reinstated. Carna's relations with its former colonial subjects of New Kinlaig and Brumalea were also particularly hostile during this period, with both countries having taken in much of the Carnish aristocracy following the revolution, with Brumalea even retaining the Carnish monarchy. New Kinlaig's system of apartheid and white minority rule also contributed to its hostile relations with its former colonial overlord. However, since the revolution, Carna has maintained a highly internationalist outlook. The country has established itself as a close ally of other left-wing governments, funded Bairdist organisations around the globe, and has positioned itself as the world's guardian and foremost propagator of communism. Following the victory of the Ubunyi Audonian People's Army (UAPA) in New Kinlaig and the subsequent establishment of the Bairdist Ubunyi People's Union in its place, Carna and their former colony would become close allies. The abolition of the Carnish monarchy in Brumalea in 2004 would see the period of hostile relations between the country and Carna come to and end, with relations improving significantly thereafter. From the 1980s onwards, relations between Carna and the other nations of the world also began to thaw as it had become clear that deposition of the Carnish Union and the reestablishment of the Carnish monarchy would be highly unlikely. Despite this, Carna's relations with many nations do remain cold, owing primarily to ideological differences. Carna is currently a member of the League of Nations as well as a founding member of the Treaty of International Assistance and Development.

Carnish Relation Classification Table

The Secretary of International Affairs annually publishes the Carnish Relation Classification Guide, for use by foreign relations analysts, elected officials, and even foreign elements. The guide is meant to inform the world population of the state of various relations between the world's different governing bodies and Carna. The system is based on the Brumal Relations Classifications Table and is identical in most aspects. The system was adopted in 2007 following the warming of relations between Carna and Brumalea after the latter's abolition of the Carnish monarchy. The Secretary of International Affairs at the time, Thomas Rennie, had been impressed by the system and viewed it as superior to the standard system of categorising relations used by most nations. The system was officially adopted on August 6th, 2007 following a two-thirds majority vote in the Forgaitherin.
