The Urcean Republic was a short-lived radical socialist and revolutionary government that ruled Urceopolis from 3 March to 19 November 1902. The conditions of the Red Interregnum following the Fall of Cana in 1901 lead to the downfall of Crown-Regent Gréagóir FitzRex in 1902. FitzRex actively courted socialist working class activists in an attempt to build a domestic coalition to win the war, resulting in socialists winning a majority in the rump Concilium Daoni in 1900. Upon FitzRex's death, the Daoni created a Republic and abolished itself, creating a National Assembly in its place. The Republic continued to pursue the Red Interregnum, largely in self-defense against a potential restoration.
The Republic, though it existed for a short time, was a revolutionary event in the History of Urcea. A republican movement had never operated in the open up until the Republic's existence, and its memory was idealized by Levantine republicans and socialists as a model for radical governance. The surviving members of its government - along with many ideologues who associated with it - founded the Republican Party to continue its ideological underpinnings.
