The Social Labor Party was a political party in the Apostolic Kingdom of Urcea, and during its existence it was the third largest political party. Established as a unity party of the left, the Social Labor Party was known for its opposition to the traditional, Catholic oriented politics of Urcea as well as Urcean expansion abroad.
The Social Labor Party was predated by several different major parties throughout Urcean history, particularly the Democratic Labor Party, its immediate antecedent. Largely based on the efforts of DLP leader Ronan Cornelius Marcán, the Party was formed primarily from the Democratic Labor Party and the left-of-center faction of the Commonwealth Union as well as many left leaning independents and regional parties. This event was known as the 2015 Urcean political realignment, and it had the effect of destroying the century-old Commonwealth Union. The Social Labor Party briefly served as the official party of the opposition after the 2015 Urcean elections, but split as a result of the 2018 Urcean institutional referendum, as a large part of the party refused to campaign against the Urcean monarchy, joining what would eventually become the Solidarity Party. Between 2015 and 2018 is known as the party's "moderate" or "mainstream" period, reverting more to a traditional Synodalist position. After the referendum the party lost significant public credibility and was soundly defeated in the 2020 Urcean elections, losing 58 of its remaining 90 seats. Marcán was subsequently indicted for leaking defense documents to Algoquona, an incident which directly lead to the beginning of the Final War of the Deluge. Though the Social Labor Party participated in the National Government that formed during the war, it has been a major opponent of Urcea's intervention in Crona, and has pursued a deliberately anti-colonial policy since the end of the war.
During its existence, the Social Labor Party has been characterized by significant internal division. The party formally divided along monarchist and republican lines during the 2018 Urcean institutional referendum and practically divided again during the Final War of the Deluge. Envisioned as a left-wing unity party, many observers have noted in the post-war party that the secularist Marxist-Synodalist majority of the party is opposed by large minorities of far-left Organic socialists and Catholic proponents of liberation theology.
The modern Social Labor Party, as a relatively minor third party in the Concilium Daoni, views itself as the main party to hold the Urcean political system to account. That system, dominated by the larger National Pact and Solidarity Party, is "woefully unexposed to the modern world" according to the Social Labor Party. Consequently, the Party's self assessed role in its present "wilderness period" is to be an outspoken minority, shedding light on the nation's various failings in order to educate the masses towards a brighter future. Within Urcean socialist philosophy, it is the primary Synodalist institution, a status which it inherited from the Democratic Labor Party.
