The Republican Party was a political party in Urcea formed during the end of the Urcean Republic. Initially made up of the governing radical socialist majority of the Republic, the party was outlawed and sent underground during the Restoration, during which time it continued to field an insurgent National Republican Army. The party was legalized in 1924 with the disbandment of the National Republican Army, but it only sparingly fielded candidates as many viewed the party with suspicion, so it served instead as an organizing committee for the Urcean far left. The party enjoyed some legitimacy during the 1950s as it had delegates in the Conshilía Purpháidhe for the first time, but the creation of other minor, more mainstream, left wing parties sent the Republican Party back into obscurity. The Republican Party offered logistical support in the creation of the Democratic Labor Party in 2000, and some have referred to the parties as "intertwined organizations".

The Party would remain dormant and obscure until the 2010s with the revival of the fortunes of the Urcean far left. The party did not field candidates in the 2015 Urcean elections, but played an important role in the logistics of dissolving the Commonwealth Union and the subsequent fortune-reversal of the Democratic Labor Party. In 2016, the 110 year old Republican Party decided, at the Casanam Conference to dissolve and merge into the new Social Labor Party in an effort to unify the left and give the new party the legitimacy of the successors of the Urcean Republic.

History

Insurgency

Following the collapse of the Urcean Republic, many members of the legally defunct Republican Party - especially mid to low ranking ones - disbursed back into the Urcean public while few went into the wilderness to continue the fight for republicanism. Among those who reintegrated, its been estimated that as many as a quarter secretly joined their efforts or in the very least provided funding for these efforts. In 1905, these two separate groups reforged the National Republican Army. The Army was now charged with pursuing a terrorist and insurgent campaign in order to destabilize the restored regime of King Patrick III. The Republican Party, operating underground, fully supported the efforts of the NRA and by 1907 the two organizations were practically inseparable.

The insurgency was largely ineffective in its first several years. The Army was struggling to recruit even dedicated socialists who hoped to find a new party within the legal mainstream. However, with the dawn of the Great Depression in 1909, huge numbers of disaffected unemployed laborers were available for socialist education and recruitment. 1909 is considered the "true" first year of the insurgency, beginning a nearly decade long conflict with the newly founded Agency for the Preservation of the Restoration, the Kingdom's new secret police.
