Copium is an opiate drug of the morphinan structural class. It is chemically similar to morphine, but with a cobalt atom crammed up in there, hence the name.

Copium occurs naturally in the excretions of the Kindreds russet poppy (Papaver agriliana), native to the islands of the Kindreds Sea. Competition for control over the lucrative trade in copium was a key factor in the outbreak of the Kindred Wars during the 17th century AD. The illegal commerce of copium also played a key role in the South Cronan Narco Wars from 1959 to 1989.
