The Centalvasi Academy teaches children 10-16 and offers an immersive and comprehensive education experience through its "Lanx Satura Scientia" or "Platter Full of Knowledge" philosophy, fostering an environment where students are encouraged to become 'knowledge bearers'. Students are encouraged to seek knowledge, critically evaluate information, and contribute to intellectual discourse. The philosophy also promotes the idea that knowledge extends beyond the classroom, with experiences, character, ethics, and global awareness being integral parts of a student's education.
Since 1888, the Centalvasi Academy has used a dual-campus model, which was an innovation at the time. The main campus, known as Anterrine, is where students spend the majority of the academic year. Nestled in the heart of the Asordona District, the Anterrine campus is a sprawling expanse of grand neoclassical architecture, meticulously maintained gardens, and state-of-the-art facilities. For the winter term, the students and faculty relocate to the school's second campus, the Narcendov Campus, located in the snow-covered mountains of Novetra province.
Throughout its history, the Centalvasi Academy has served the children of Caphiria's aristocracy, providing an education that goes beyond academic excellence to encompass character development, leadership skills, and an understanding of one's duties and responsibilities to society. Its motto, "Nuntius Scientiae Portator Luminis" ("Bearer of Knowledge, Bringer of Light"), encapsulates this holistic vision of education. With a student body of 2,500 and a faculty-staff ratio of 5:1, the school is able to provide personalized attention and mentorship to each student. For over two centuries, the Academy has consistently shaped generations of students who have gone on to significantly impact various facets of Caphirian society. The President of the Academy has been Luca Carlini since 2001 and Mardoro Varpacci has been headmaster since 2004.
History
Organization and administration
The Board of Governors is the ultimate policy-making body of the Centalvasi Academy and is responsible for the institution's governance, strategic planning, and fiscal accountability. The Board ensures that the Academy abides by its mission and vision, serving as a driving force for its continual improvement. The Board comprises of approximately 20 to 25 members who come from various walks of life, providing a broad perspective on decision-making. The composition of the Board includes representatives from the Academy's alumni, prominent figures from academia, industry leaders, and government officials. Some seats on the Board are specifically reserved for major donors or philanthropists who contribute significantly to the Academy's endowment.
Each member of the Board is appointed for a term of four years, with the possibility of renewal based on their contribution and the Academy's requirements. The Board is chaired by a Chairman, elected by the board members themselves, who holds the position for a renewable term of two years. The Board meets several times throughout the year, with regular meetings scheduled to discuss and decide on various issues relating to the Academy's operations. Apart from regular meetings, special sessions are called when needed to address specific matters or emergencies. Within the Board of Governors, several committees exist to handle more specific areas of governance. These committees might include an Executive Committee, Academic Affairs Committee, Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and a Governance and Nominations Committee, among others. The committees are comprised of Board members and often include representatives from other parts of the Academy's community, such as faculty or administration.
The Board of Governors appoints a President, who is responsible for the daily operations of the Academy. Serving as the primary point of contact between the Board and the rest of the Academy, the President implements the strategic goals and policies set by the Board. The President oversees all aspects of the Academy's functioning, including academic programs, student services, research activities, faculty affairs, administrative procedures, financial management, and campus facilities. The President also spearheads the development and execution of the Academy's strategic plan, ensuring that the institution maintains its mission and continues to achieve its vision.
In terms of academic responsibilities, the President confers degrees, diplomas, and certificates to graduating students, and appoints, promotes, or dismisses faculty members in consultation with relevant academic bodies. The President also presides over major academic ceremonies and events, such as convocations and commencements. The President also serves as the public face of the Academy, developing relationships with government bodies, other educational institutions, industry partners, the local community, and alumni. The President also plays a key role in fundraising activities, fostering relationships with donors and patrons to secure funding and resources necessary for the Academy's ongoing operations and future growth.
While the President holds considerable authority within the institution, their actions and decisions are subject to the approval and oversight of the Board of Governors. This balance of power ensures that the Academy's leadership operates within the framework of governance set by the Board. The President is appointed by the Board of Governors for a renewable term typically lasting five years. The appointment process usually involves a search committee that recommends suitable candidates to the Board, following a rigorous selection process.
