The Cartadanian Armed Forces (Cartadanian: Forças Armadas Cartadanianas, abbreviated as FA) are the military forces responsible for the defence of Cartadania, its overseas territories, possessions, and dependencies. They also promote Cartadania's wider interests, support international peacekeeping efforts, and provide humanitarian aid. It consists of the Cartadanian Air Force, Cartadanian Army, Cartadanian Marine Corps, Cartadanian Navy, and Cartadanian Coast Guard. The President of Cartadania is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and forms military policy with the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Homeland Security (DSI), both federal executive departments, acting as the principal organs by which military policy is carried out. All five armed services are among the seven uniformed services of Cartadania.

History

The history of the Cartadanian Armed Forces dates back to the 16th century when the Cartadanian Army was formed as an autonomous reporting unit of the Caphirian Imperial Legion, a unit known as the Legio Septentrionalis (lit.'Northern Legion'). Its role was primarily the defense of East Cognatia, today what is Cartadania. In 1603, the Cartadanian Navy and Marine Corps were jointly formed under the autonomous government, pre-establishing Cartadania's naval and amphibious forces, though they still fell within the realm of the Imperium. Cartadania's navy, in particular, can actually trace its history to the mid-1400s, when the southern realm of the region began naval power projection efforts to expand the state. It wasn't incorporated as a formal body, however, until its present-standing date. Since then, the armed forces have played a significant role in Cartadanian military history, particularly during the Second Great War, when they fought against Caphiria and Vachena.

In 1913, Cartadania established the first independent air force in the world, that is, it existed outside of the other branches of government (e.g., as an army aviation wing). Alongside the Navy, it has played a crucial role in ensuring Cartadanian military superiority across multiple theaters, with a particular emphasis on air superiority since the 1960s. Its sister branch, the Cartadanian Space Force, was formed in 2012 and operates Cartadanian spacecraft across various programs, including GPS and various networks pertinent to intelligence and the DoD.

Established in 1691, the Cartadanian Coast Guard is a distinct military branch with a multi-faceted role. It not only operates in maritime environments, but also undertakes law enforcement duties within the country's territorial waters as well as international waters. Furthermore, the Coast Guard serves as a federal regulatory agency, adding an additional layer of responsibility to its mandate.
