Burgundie has had formal diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Thervala since 1650 when contact was made with the Duchy of Martilles. Since then, Thervala has acted as a stronghold of Burgoignac influence alongside Oyashima in Northern Audonia. Despite many actions committed by early Bugoignac people in the Ther Protectorate, both the government and people of Thervala view Burgundie as a natural friend and ally who helped them modernize and gain independence. The Ther dictator, Prasatthong Kittisak once said to the Burgoignac diplomat to Thervala:
Without the help of the great peoples of Levantia and more specifically, Burgundie, our own people would still be living at the whim of more powerful nations around us. We were once vassals under the Arunids in ancient times, and our blood was spilled for many generations under the tutelage of the Great Khanate. It was Burgoignac people, however, that treated the Ther people with enough respect and dignity to not only arm and train a Ther army in the Occidental way, but to trade with us fairly so that we could grow our economy. Thervala represents Occidental values here in Audonia, such as Freedom, Christianity, and Self determination. If I could give you all the support I intend to for free, I would, Monsieur Diplomate. I just cannot afford to help old friends and watch my own nation suffer against Communist dissidents at home and abroad.
