The foreign relations of Metzetta are under the control of the Metzettan Ministry of Diplomacy and, ultimately, The Emperor. Historically one of Metzetta's favourite diplomatic tools was the arranged marriage between a high-ranking foreigner and a cadet member of the Imperial Family, and modern-day Metzetta also employs the tactic of twinning its cities with those abroad to foster friendly relations. Metzettan Emperors often bestow honours upon foreign heads of state as a display of friendship. A large number of Metzettan diplomats are minor royals.

International organisations

League of Nations

Metzetta has been a member of the League of Nations since its inception. Two Metzettans have held the office of Provost-General of the LoN; Haruka Kang in 2003 and Unmyeong Jin in 2016.

Metzetta maintains an embassy in Nicheng; the embassy of Canpei can be found in Hanzeong with an additional consulate in Ankae. Princess Seunsi married in 1955 to Satō Miyamoto of Canpei.

Corumm

Corumm is one of the earliest foreign states mentioned in Metzettan literature, and it was one of the only nations to have any significant impact on the ancient culture of Metzetta. The nations have maintained friendly relations for most of history, often finding a common enemy in Tanhai during historic disputes, but found themselves on opposing sides during the Second Great War. Metzetta maintains an embassy in Mirzak, with Corumm's embassy found in Hanzeong. Emperor Hachi has made state visits to Corumm, as did his predecessor Rindo.

Metzetta and Tanhai have a history of disputed territories on the archipelago between the two countries as well as Tanhai's northern peninsula. Following the Second Great War treaties were signed marking the first time in history the two nations had been in full agreement on their borders, with relations warming since then. Consular services for Tanhai citizens are available in Ankae, with the main embassy for Tanhai located in Hanzeong. Metzetta maintains an embassy in Jiushi.

Seongnam University of Metzetta has an agreement with Arcerion's Carnish Anglican University so that both universities host campuses for each other. Arcerion's embassy can be found in Hanzeong, while Metzetta maintains an embassy in Kurst. Emperor Hachi made a state visit to Arceion in 2024.

The Cape

Metzetta maintains an embassy in Cape Town, while the Cape's embassy in Metzetta is located in Hanzeong. Relations between the states had been virtually non-existent due to the Cape's distaste for monarchy, however Emperor Hachi made a landmark (but not uncontroversial) state visit to the country in 2025.

Metzetta has been critical of Burgundie's presence in Alshar, claiming the nation should revoke at least some of the territories in the region it currently holds, with Ayermer, Salarive and Antilles all proving contentious due to Burgundie's complete chokehold on the internal sea between Alshar and Audonia. The two nations were however on the same side in the Second Great War and cultural exchanges between the two countries have been common since their first contact.

Emperor Daeku's attempts to westernise Metzetta were primarily driven by a desire to curry favour with Urcea; all Urcean monarchs since Aedanicus VIII have been offered the highest honour Metzetta currently had since their establishment in 1860; Aedenicus IX was the first foreign recipient of the Supreme Order of Taeyang when it became the new highest honour in 2000.

Princess Haeki married Niall de Weluta of Urcea in 1965. Their oldest child Leo de Weluta has been the Urcean ambassador to Metzetta since 1998. Urcea's embassy to Metzetta is located in Hanzeong, while Metzetta's embassy in Urcea can be found in Urceopolis.
