Montecarlo, officially the State of Montecarlo (Cartadanian: Estado de Montecarlo; Charentais: État de Montecarlo), is a state located in southwestern Cartadania. It is the 18th most populous Cartadanian state as well as the least extensive. With a density of 293.7 people per km2 (761 per mi2), it is the most densely populated state in Cartadania. The state capital is Charrice. The Gold Coast metropolitan area is the most populous urban region, with 4.4 million residents, comprising the bulk of the state's population. Clairmonte is Montecarlo's most populous city.

Montecarlo borders Siena, Ferara, and Luca to the west and north, and Viterna to the east and south. The state is, generally, geographically flat and owing to its size, has very little variation in terrain. Despite this, the state is quite biodiverse. It extends from a small inlet of the Kindreds Sea, often referred to as the Bay of Siena, into the forested and savannah areas of Central Cartadania. The population is heavily concentrated in the southern portion of the state.

Montecarlo is known for having the highest concentration of millionaire individuals per capita of any state in Cartadania, with Clairmonte having the most per capita of any city.

Primary and secondary education

Montecarlo is divided into 14 school districts, organized at the parish or city level. Primary and secondary education in Montecarlo is overseen by the Montecarlo Department of Education, which is headquartered in the state capital, Charrice. The highest educational official in the state is the State Superintendent of Schools, who is appointed by the State Board of Education to a four-year term of office. The Montecarlo General Assembly has given the Superintendent and State Board autonomy to make educationally related decisions, limiting its own influence on the day-to-day functions of public education. Each parish in Montecarlo, as well as cities that have their own school districts, is overseen by an elected school board, which typically consists four members elected at large as well as the district's Superintendent (Clairmonte's school board is seven members-six elected at large from each of the city's districts and one superintendent), charged with running the public schools in that particular jurisdiction.
