New Veltorina: Difference between revisions

In the waning years of the [[Final War of the Deluge]], the alignment of [[Urcea]] and [[the Cape]] together in the war against [[Varshan]] opened dialogue between both countries. This created a diplomatic window in which rapprochement between the Veltorine Popular Defense Committee and [[Veltorine government-in-exile]] could explore collaborations with regard to a Veltorine state in Crona. The collaboration had begun on the ground in the [[2022]] occupation, as covert cells of the government-in-exile - ostensibly originally placed to disrupt the Veltorine project - were ordered to work with their VPDC counterparts to resist Varshani forces. As a result of the convergence of diplomatic priorities, as well as practical alliances formed on the ground, negotiations to end the so-called "Veltorine schism" began at the conclusion of the war in [[2024]]. These efforts, now known as Veltorine unification, created the [[New Veltorine Provisional Government]], which was agreed to in early 2026 and took control of the [[Veltorine Territories]] on 16 May [[2026]], formally establishing New Veltorina as a sovereign state. The unification resolved many of the personal animosities between leaders and committed the New Veltorine state to be a republic, rather than a monarchy, a sticking point of the Capetian-influenced government-in-exile. The latter institution dissolved with the establishment of the new Provisional Government, formally creating a single body to represent the Veltorine people internationally for the first time since [[1984]]. In the wake of the agreement, many Veltorines residing in the Cape began to relocate to New Veltorina, introducing social and political influcnes of that country into New Veltorine society.
