Metzetta has been inhabited since prehistory, with the earliest pottery fragments dating from around 8000 BC. In the 3rd Century AD the kingdoms of Metzetta were united under an Emperor and imperial court based in Hanzeong, the nation's capital and largest, most populous city. Following The Great War, Metzetta's government arrived at a somewhat unique position wherein the Imperial House was allowed to continue to exist, but many of the Emperor's duties were delegated to an elected position; for which the emperor is eligible to run. In effect, the imperial court became a political party which sometimes controlled the country entirely and sometimes became mostly a ceremonial figurehead, depending on the whims of the voters.
The Stenzan Armed Forces act as the official constitutional military for the Republic of Stenza. The force describes itself as mostly defensive, and is known for its rather timid ground forces compared to a strong naval force. The Stenzan Armed Forces are led by Stenza's National Defense Council,
a nine seat council with three representatives from each service branch. The military is fully integrated with all positions open to both men and women given they meet internal standards, and has been since 1967.

Metzetta is a developed country which faces an aging population problem. The populace benefit from a high-speed train network and globally influential music and film sectors. The official language, Metzi, is written using Hangul, and is considered a language isolate.

Etymology
Stenza's army is its oldest service branch, having existed as an unified force since 1811 when the Corummese Colonial government decided to raise a force made up of local conscripts with Corummese officers and NCO's. This force was effective enough in putting down any resistance during the colonial era, but eventually revolted against the Corummese government to start the Stenzan war of independence. The Stenzan Army was reformed upon gaining independence in 1921, and has existed in its current force since.
The ancient kingdom of Meseda derived its name from "Me" (메) meaning hill or mountain, and "Seda" (섿아) meaning fierce, strong or powerful; altogether the name translated as "Fierce Hill" or "Powerful Mountain" in reference not only to the mountainous terrain of the region, but also specifically to Adamant Hill where the Emperor's castle stood in Hanzeong. By the time Meseda had conquered the neighbouring kingdoms, the spelling and pronunciations of the root words had changed to "Mettu" (멛두) and "Zetta" (ㅿ엗다) from which the modern name is drawn.
History
Local legends hold that Metzetta and the surrounding lands were created by the gods; archaeological evidence has not yet been found to support this version of events.
Prehistory
Tool-making artefacts have been found in Metzetta dating from around 700,000 years ago. Settlements seem to have been concentrated in the central-western portion of the country. Agricultural societies and the most primitive forms of social-political complexities emerged around 1500 BC, developing around both dry-field and paddy-field crops. Beginning in 850 BC, chiefs began to take command over societies, and their (for the time) lavish burials have been excavated across the country. Bronze-production became possible in 700 BC and immediately cemented itself as a cornerstone of civilisation. Long distance trade, increasing levels of local conflict and the development of iron metallurgy signalled the end of this era of history about 300 BC.
Ancient Kingdoms
The first Metzettan kingdom, and the one which would come to dominate all others, was Meseda, supposedly founded by Emperor Yang (a direct descendant of the gods) in 2333 BC. Written records from 700 BC attest that the kingdom was certainly well-established by this time. Meseda's capital was located in Hanzeong as it is today. Meseda is sometimes referred to in later accounts as Meseda-jo to differentiate it from modern-day Metzetta, but it was never known by this name at the time.

To the northeast of Meseda-jo lay Hyuntoji (Hyuntoji translates as "Dark Land" or "Mysterious Land" and was the Metzettan name for the territory). Hyuntoji was smaller and less sophisticated than Meseda and was subjugated around 300 BC as Meseda-jo expanded. The territory to the south of Meseda was known as Daekang (Great Water/River in Metzi) and was prosperous thanks to its ample coastline and greater proportion of arable land than the mountainous Meseda-jo. Daekang controlled several islands off the coast and resisted takeover attempts from the north for generations until falling in 85 BC. Following this acquisition Meseda-jo became known as Metzetta. Over the coming years the new empire would take to the seas and conquer many islands off the coast and laid claim to as many uninhabited islands as it could find.
The Stenzan Army of today is a modern light mechanized force suited to Stenza's defense. The bulk of its forces are formed into (light) mechanized divisions, which are mobile enough to thrive in Stenza's somewhat difficult terrain. Three air mobile divisions, two airborne divisions and a single armored division finish up Stenza's offensive capabilities on land. One interesting thing to note about Stenza's light mechanized divisions is their secondary role as Gendarmerie divisions, with the bulk of these divisions being absorbed from the old Stenzan Internal Forces, a paramilitary agency under the previous government. Divisions and units that are marked as Gendarmerie divisions can perform constitutional law enforcement duties all over Stenza.

Climate
Metzetta tends to have a humid continental climate and a humid subtropical climate, and experiences a monsoon season in the summer, which begins end of June through the end of July. Winters can be extremely cold with the minimum temperature dropping below −20 °C in the inland region of the country. Winter temperatures are higher along the southern coast and considerably lower in the mountainous interior. Summer can be uncomfortably hot and humid, with temperatures exceeding 30 °C in most parts of the country. Metzetta has four distinct seasons; spring, summer, autumn and winter. Spring usually lasts from late March to early May, summer from mid-May to early September, autumn from mid-September to early November, and winter from mid-November to mid-March.

Rainfall is concentrated in the summer months of June through September. The southern coast is subject to late summer typhoons that bring strong winds, heavy rains and sometimes floods. The average annual precipitation is around 1400millimetres.
Stenza's Army is a full time voluntary force with a major reserve component. Most army divisions are only staffed to a third of their normal wartime strength, with the other two thirds being drawn from reservists. Reservists are obliged to train for two weekends a month and two large exercises per year, with the government offering free education to every member of Stenza's military reserve.

Metzetta offers its citizens free healthcare, and boasts high life expectancy rates. With birth rates falling, the population is aging rapidly. Advanced medical facilities such as MRI scanners are readily available. Tourists must pay to access Metzettan medical care. Smoking is common in Metzetta, causing concern amongst the country's medical experts.

Currency
The Metzettan Won is the nation's currency, minted by the Bank of Metzetta. The word "won" means "round" in reference to the shape of the coins, which were originally minted with square holes. Many variations have been produced and coin collecting is a popular hobby. Currently coins are minted in values of ₩1, ₩5, ₩10, ₩50, ₩100 and ₩500, though ₩1 and ₩5 coins are becoming increasingly rare as inflation renders them obsolete. Banknotes are currently minted in denominations of ₩1000, ₩5000, ₩10,000, ₩50,000 and ₩100,000. Coins and banknotes in other denominations have been produced in the past and unusual denominations are sometimes minted for commemorative purposes. Common subjects depicted on coins and banknotes include Emperors, flowers, birds and architecture.

Energy
Historically Metzetta was a coal-powered nation but this system has been supplanted by nuclear energy, and to a lesser extent, other renewable sources such as wind, geothermal, solar, tidal and hydroelectric power. Nearly 75% of Metzetta's energy is produced in Nuclear power plants, with plans to retire the few remaining coal plants well underway. It is not uncommon for private citizens to generate some of their own electricity through the use of a small wind turbine or bank of solar panels. Energy is not a private industry in Metzetta and all power plants are controlled by Energy For Metzetta, a government agency.

Air Force
Stenza's Air Force, founded in 1934, is a mostly defensive force consisting of a mix of both modern and somewhat older equipment. The air force has both active duty and reserve squadrons, with the reserve squadrons being permanently manned through a month-on five months off basis. Stenza's modern front line fighters are based off a navy design, with older 1980s vintage models augmenting it. The multirole aircraft perform multiple mission sets, such as combat air patrol (CAP), close air support (CAS), interdiction, interception and more. Stenza also has a specialized bomber fleet of 48 1970s vintage strategic bombers, divided into four operational squadrons.

Aside from its combat squadrons, the Stenzan Air Force also has squadrons for transportation (both tactical and strategic), aerial refueling, Airborne Early Warning (AEW) and other miscellaneous tasks. These squadrons not only operate aircraft though, with the Stenzan Air Force also being responsible for the country's static air defenses. Both early warning stations and static air defenses are manned by crews of full time personnel augmented by reservists on a rotational basis, and the country hosts an air integrated air defense system consisting of these assets, interceptor aircraft and naval vessels.

The Stenzan Air Force operates from both its own bases and reserve bases that exist at civilian airports. It is not uncommon for civilian airfields that only serve small regional aircraft to have large runways and the facilities needed to host large military aircraft.

Navy
The Stenzan Navy is the strongest branch of the Stenzan military, having been considered the "Tip of the Spear" for Stenzan protection for decades. With Stenzan having been an isolated nation for a long time. Stenza has quite a modern naval force built around four Nuclear-powered Kapiti-class aircraft carriers and five 1940s vintage Ka'o-class Heavy Cruisers, three of which have been modernized to act as missile cruisers while two more have been refurbished as command ships. Stenza's other surface combatants include both modern and outdated Destroyers and Frigates. Under the waves, Stenza has both modern Nuclear powered attack and ballistic missile submarines, supplemented by more numerous diesel-electric submarines. A Maritime Aviation branch completes the Stenzan Navy's offensive capabilities, consisting of both the traditional carrier-borne aviation capabilities, maritime patrol aircraft and a plethora of other aviation forces. The Stenzan navy is considered a blue water force.

The traditional Coast Guard duties of coastal defense, search and rescue and maritime law enforcement are carried out by Stenza's navy, using a plethora of coastal small craft and aircraft split up in Coastal Defense Zones, these zones are usually assigned one or two outdated frigates as well. Reservists generally spend a cruise with Stenza's defensive forces once or twice a year to meet their service obligation.

The Stenzan Navy also operates the Stenzan Auxillary Navy, a command consisting of both civilian and naval crews that staff Stenza's various support vessels, such as supply ships and transports.

Stenza's navy consists of the following main seafaring forces (Auxillaries and smaller craft not included):

Nuclear Armanents
Although Stenza's government neither confirms or denies it, Stenza has been known to be a nuclear capable nation that has developed, tested and operationally fielded Nuclear weapons. Stenza's nuclear arsenal is not too large, with Submarine Launched Ballistic Missiles reportedly being capable of delivering multiple-hundred kiloton warheads while nuclear tipped torpedoes and aerial missiles being reported to be in the sub-hundred kiloton range. Nuclear-tipped anti-ship missiles are also reportedly fielded, both on surface combatants and on land, although specifics are uncertain and their existence has been denied by the Stenzan government.

TOTAL COMPOSITION OF STENZAN COMBATANTS
NAME TYPE AMOUNT DESCRIPTION
Kapiti-class Aircraft Carrier Aircraft Carrier, Nuclear (AVN) 4 Pride of Stenzan fleet.
Ka'o-class Cruiser Heavy Cruiser, Missile (HCM) 3 1940s Heavy Cruiser modernized over the decades to have modern weaponry and sensors, maintains frontal two heavy gun turrets. Fourth in class lost in catastrophic explosion in 2004.
Ka'o-class Command Ship Command Ship (CC) 2 1940s Heavy Cruiser modernized over the decades, converted to Command Cruiser stripping most heavy weaponry in favor of command and control equipment. No longer has original gun turrets but has defensive armament comparable to a modern frigate. Has powerful air defense radar.
Flualimi-class Destroyer Destroyer, Missile (DDM) 9 Modern destroyer introduced in 2000s, main offensive ship in Stenzan navy and considered a capable surface combatant.
Happu-class Destroyer Destroyer, Missile (DDM) 12 1980s era destroyer that fills the bulk of Stenza's destroyer force, respectable surface combatant, even if the design is dated it has received gradual updates. Designed off Corummese technology.
Pllalludalli-class Frigate Frigate, Missile (FFM) 11 Modern all-round frigate design considered to be a relatively cheap way to arm Stenza with capable enough surface combatants. Can fulfil most surface roles, excels at none.
Minanea-class Frigate Frigate, Missile (FFM) 26 1970s frigate design still in service thanks to upgrades to base design. Used as all-round multipurpose ship, even if slightly dated. Designed off Corummese technology.
Dii-class Frigate Frigate, Air Defense (FFA) 4 Modification of base Minanea-class Frigate to include powerful air defense radar so it can act as a fleet's air defense hub, doesn't have the anti-surface missiles its parent class has to save weight and space.
Plo-class Amphibious Support Ship Amphibious Support Ship (ASS) 5 Ship capable of deploying Marine forces through both helicopters and seaborne assault craft.
Silen-class Submarine Nuclear Ballistic Missile Submarine (SBN) 3 Considered the tip of the spear as far as Stenza's Nuclear arsenal goes, carry SLBMs.
Hae-class Submarine Nuclear Attack Submarine (SAN) 8 Nuclear Attack submarines, rumored to carry Nuclear-tipped torpedoes.
Floop-class Submarine Diesel Electric Submarine (SA) 12 Mostly used on defensive assignments, rather cheap.
