Ranaella Province (Banlieueregis Ranaella), is a Province of the Imperium of Caphiria located south of Venceia. It is the southernmost continuous province in Caphiria, sharing a border with the Xalesian Imperial Commonwealth and the surrounding Lake Xalica and the Bay of Riaia. With a population over 60 million, Ranaella is the 6th-most populous province and its capital is Angiano.

Geography

The geography of Ranaella is predominantly mountainous with extensive areas of hills which represent 30.3% of the territory, and of plains (26.4%).

To the east, Ranaella is met with the Intaris mountains and to the north it is surrounded by the Ostono plains. To the west lie the Rescentari mountains and to south is Lake Xalica and the Bay of Riaia.

From the highest peaks the land slopes down to hilly areas, (not always, though, sometimes there is a brusque transition from the mountains to the plains) and then to the upper, and then the lower Ostono. The boundary between the first and the second is characterized by risorgive, springs typical of the Ostono which supply fresh water both to the rivers and to a dense network of irrigation canals.

The countryside is very diverse: from the rugged peaks of the massifs of Mount Trectri and of the Egalline, to the damp rice paddies of Richeda and Shina, from the gentle hillsides of the Reletta, Miliza and Famorea to the plains. 7.6% of the entire province is considered protected area. There are 56 different national or provincial parks, one of the most famous is the Gran Lzania Provincial Park.

Economy

Lowland Ranaella is a fertile agricultural region. The main agricultural products in Ranaella are cereals, including rice, representing more than 10% of national production, maize, grapes for wine-making, fruit and milk. With more than 800,000 head of cattle in 2010, livestock production accounts for half of final agricultural production in Ranaella.

Ranaella is one of the great winegrowing provinces of Caphiria. More than half of its 700 square kilometres (170,000 acres) of vineyards are registered with the Qualis Vinum Potestate Certificatorium Originem (QVP-CO), the body in charge of regulating agricultural products. The QVP-CO ensures that the entire product must be traditionally and entirely manufactured (prepared, processed and produced) within the specific region and thus acquire unique properties. Ranaella produces prestigious wines as Viontiare, Poto, Sclaran, Serso, and Norsizio. Indigenous grape varieties include Moara, Nissa, Odopravo, and Maglio.

Ranaella contains major industrial centers, the main of which is Angiano, home to the Aconi Automobile Group. Pharmaceutical giant Lanxor is headquartered in Capea with facilitates all over the province. Electreus Energy and Cyntexia Technologies are based in Luggiovaria. The Hills of Vannianoli are one of the most important places in the Senovire Region and contain the Vineyards of Vannianoli, one of the most prestigious wine vineyards in the world. The city of Foni in the Pyratso Region is home to Modorma's chocolate factories and some mechanical industries.

Tourism in Ranaella employs 435,534 people and currently comprises 17,367 companies operating in the hospitality and catering sector, with 3,473 hotels and tourist accommodations. The province enjoys almost the same level of popularity among Caphirians and visitors from overseas. In 2022 there were 2,651,068 total arrivals. The traditional leading areas for tourism in Ranaella are "wine country", comprising of the Senovire, Arada, and Roucasmo regions which accounts for 32.84% of total overnight stays, and the beautiful lakeside views of the Teiradala and Lomenia regions, which accounts for 26.51%.

Since 1994, Ranaella has benefited from the start of the tardus cibum movement which highlighted the rich agricultural and viticultural value of the Ostono valley and southern Caphiria. In the same year, the Ranaella Agency for Investments, Export and Tourism (RAIET) was launched and strives to strengthen the international role of the area and its potential. It was the first Caphirian institution to bring together all activities carried out by pre-existing local organizations operating for the internationalization of the province.

Demographics

With a population of 62,644,651, the population density Ranaella is slightly below the national average. The population of Ranaella followed a downward trend throughout the 1980s. This drop is the result of the natural negative balance (of some 3 to 4% per year), while the migratory balance since 1986 has again become positive because of an excess of new immigration over a stable figure for emigration. The population as a whole has remained stable in the 1990s, although this is the result of a negative natural balance and a positive net migration.

The Angiano metro area grew rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s due to an increase of immigrants from northern Caphiria. As of 2030, the Census estimated that 310,543 foreign-born immigrants live in Ranaella.

Culture

Education

The economy of Ranaella is anchored on a rich history of state support for excellence in higher education, including some of the leading universities in the Imperium. The Ranaella valley is home to the University of Martoli, University of Angiano, Oscimone Technical Institute, and the Tricolla Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (Triolla CJRI).
