The Ancient Istroyan civilization was through most of its history just been a loose cultural and linguistic related city-states. Many scholars say that it was during the first millennia BC that the Istroyan Golden Age started, where the Istroyan people was the leading civilization in mathematics, philosophy, and the arts. While trading had always been essential to the Ancient Istroyan, we see that in the 4th century there was a very large increase in trade. Due to this increase in trade in the 4th century we see a substantial change in the political power of the Istroyan city-states from the traditional powerholders of the oligarchs into the hands of the emporoi (the wealthy trading class). Another effect of this trade was it drove the Ancient Istroyan to seek more resources through the colorizations of areas such as modern day [[Burgundie]]. A third result of said increase in trade volume was the rise to promise of the city-state of Solisus. While before the 4th century we only see Solisus as a small trading outpost, we see that in the 4th century's increase in trade volume that the ruling emporoi class capitalized on this open sea of opportunity and made Solisus into one of the leading cities in Eastern Sarpedon. This hegemony of the Istroyan lands under Solisus prevailed until around 150 BC when all of mainland Istroya got conquered by [[Caphiria]]. However Ancient Istroyan culture continued to flourish under Caphirian rule.
