The EM13a 'Lightning is a portable infared-homing surface-to-air missile system built by Faneria. It is manufactured by the National Arms Foundry along with the FM13g 'Thunder', a license-built version of the Yonderrian MAS-12. The Lightning was originally designed in the 1990s, but was redesigned in the 2010s as the EM13a-2. It is designed to be fired with a bipod or on a vehicle mount, the latter of which comes in single, 4, and 6-missile variants, and is part of the Castle Program.
Brenna Daenlaine is a Fhainnin diplomat and Faneria's chief representative to the League of Nations.

Early Life
Brenna Marygwyn Daenlaine was born in September, 1991, in the city of Rihsport to Gregor and Martha Daenlaine, and was raised as the youngest of two. Her brother Collin volunteered for military service and serves as an officer in the Army Sea Bureau. Brenna attended the King's North Woods College for one year before being accepted to the National Political Science College, a state-operated college. She spent two years at the branch in Rihsport before being offered a partially expenses-paid transfer to Oirthidún as a promising candidate for the central bureaucracy. She spent an additional year there, specializing in Boreal Culture and Diplomacy.

The Lightning was originally conceived as an independent, infantry-borne MANPAD system for local air defense to compliment unit ATGM teams as part of full-spectrum armored and air defense. This was later rolled into the Castle Program, which rolled development of seaborne SHORAD capabilities into a single platform. As such, the Lightning was required to fill short-range air defense roles for both warships and ground forces, which inevitably made the system too large to carry by a single soldier as originally intended. While two men could carry a Lightning and bipod as a team, the system was moved from the 'light' anti-aircraft role into the 'medium' one in the Castle system, and would be designed with extensive use and intention to upgrade in mind.
Daenlaine suffers from a slight stutter, and has been known to abuse that trait to feign weakness and wheedle out concessions and mislead foreign governments, earning her a reputation as a cunning negotiator rather than a great speaker. This came in handy at her first position from 2017-2020 as an aide to the diplomatic office for Crona, at the time a backwater position in the diplomatic corps of Faneria. This made her rise to head diplomat for Northern Crona considerably faster than many of her peers, as the initial replacement accepted a position as ambassador to the Cape. From 2020-2022, Daenlaine worked hard to encourage allied colonial interests, particularly in the Kiravian sphere, but also laid groundwork for setting up contacts throughout Cuisinaut.

Lightning-1 was first put into service in 1992 as a showpiece during the Vandarch Canal Crisis, where it was not fired once; however, the system was a well-received replacement to the 1974 'Spiderweb' and was later phased out in the 2010s for the Lightning-2, which updated the launcher hardware for each of its platforms, introduced updated targeting software, and allowed the missile to receive course corrections or through RADAR on the launching platform when fired from a vehicle to counter jamming systems. The Lightning-2 was redesigned in conjunction with the Cape and Kiravian firms, which necessitated an increase in launcher and missile length to extend the range of the missile significantly. While increasing the cost, this change improved the missile's chasing capability markedly.
The ambassador made a name for herself successfully negotiating the initiation of Faneria into LoN Command in the Final War of the Deluge, resolving several nearly-violent incidents over ship passage and conflicting targets in Crona related to the inclusion of Fhainnin advisors and special forces in the invasion of Varshan. Following Faneria's formal declaration of war and her peer MacGathac's acceptance of the position of head of the League's Environmental Conservation Commission, she was elevated from the Crona Diplomatic Office to an advisor of the LoN Ambassador's office and shortly thereafter appointed as General Assembly representative for Faneria.

Service History and Operators
As a political figure, she is a factionally unaffiliated member of the Republicans, and takes a foreign relations approach that relies on maintaining close ties globally - both with Faneria's core allies in The Cape and Brumalea as well as its allies of opportunity in Caphiria, Corumm, Prevalia, Kiravia, and others. She has been a particular proponent of closer Kiravian ties, including embracing the consideration of Coscivians as a 'brother people' to Gaels - hardly an uncommon position, but a marked departure from previous LoN ambassadors, who aggressively pursued short-term 'Faneria first' policies and pushed for renewed ties with Caphiria. This has put her at odds with Director Walaerin, who favors increased commitments to the League of Free Republics.

Early Life

Brenna Marygwyn Daenlaine was born in September, 1991, in the city of Rihsport to Gregor and Martha Daenlaine, and was raised as the youngest of two. Her brother Collin volunteered for military service and serves as an officer in the Army Sea Bureau. She spent two years at the branch in Rihsport before being offered a partially expenses-paid transfer to Oirthidún as a promising candidate for the central bureaucracy. She spent an additional year there, specializing in Boreal Culture and Diplomacy.

Career
