Yueguo (Yuenan: 月国; Yuyin: Yuèguó), officially the Rupublic of Yueguo, is a country in eastern Audonia bordered by Huoxia to the south, Canpei to the southwest and Metzatta to the east. It covers an area of 1,564,197 square kilometres (603,940 square miles), enjoys coastlines on both the Emerald Sea and the Sea of Baolei and as a population of 219.6 million heavily concentrated in it's eastern half. Yueguo is  and asymmetric federal republic comprising 11 provinces and the special capital district where the capital Zhenghe is located. The largest city in Yueguo is Shanjing, the old imperial city and economic capital of the country.
Yueguo has been the home to several indigenous pre-imperial states and kingdoms since at least the second millennium BCE, with the Liang civilization in the 9th century BCE marking the first internal unifcation of the eastern part of the country, while the west remained mostly divided. The Liang civilization would fracture and reunify multiple times until the 7th century CE when the Heavenly Empire of Daxia conquered both the Liang Kingdom of Yuesun and the various western states. The Daxian set up administrative and legal structures while creating the provincial divisions that are still the basis of Yueguo administrative regions today. In the 16th century, daxian rule would collapse, giving way to a series of Liang dynasty who continued the same imperial tradition as their previous overlords, but ading a lot of their own religious custom heavily centered around the lunar cycles and the astrology founding what would later be called the Lunar Empire. In the late 18th century, it would fight a series of conflits refered to as the Silk Wars against both it's neighbors and colonial power over trade rights which would mark the decline of the imperial period and rise of multiple warlords who split the country among themselve for the following century and a half. Yueguo wasn't unified again until 1921, under the warlord Liu Zhensheng, who's brutal reign would end on the 7th of may 1951 after the Red Banner Revolution. The Republic of Yueguo would be formally established a few months later on 21 novembre 1951 with the election of Hou Donghai.
Since the fondation of the republic, Yueguo has stuggled with erasing the legacy of the warlords and reform the antiquated imperial systems. The violent revolution that led to the establishement of democracy has left the country deeply divided along politically and culturally divided and the sucessive governements have had various degree of willingness to adress those problems. The Liang are the majority ethnic group representing 62.4% of the population with the Tiao (11.6%) and Daxian (10.2%) being respectively the second and third largest groups. Tianism is the majority religion (54.9%) and nearly one third of the population is irreligious. Yueguo is a member of the League of Nations and the NAPA (New Audonia Prosperity Alliance).
The foreign policy of Yueguo is best described has patient cautious maneuvering which balance the interests of the nation with risk limitation. This attitude has earned the country a reputation as both a eastern fence sitter and relable and a welcome counter balance to reactionist states.
Etymology
The name Yueguo is written in Yuanan as 月 (Yuè) which means lunar and 国 which simply means state. The name developped under the early Xù dynasty to refer to the imperial domesne which held the oldest Tianist temples. The term was originaly used informaly among the lower classes, but slowly was adopted by merchand and then the higher classes as a synonym of the entire territory under the Xù. When the Empire fell, the name continued to be used under the various warlords to refer to the the territories previously part of the Empire. When the Republic was formed, it was chosen as the obvious choice for a name.
The english word Tularia used by various Western states to refer to the country. It comes from a the phonetic translation into latin of the old audonic term Tulaar Azalharar, which roughly translated to "Silk Merchants" and is widely considered to have been the result of a miscommunication between the officials of the Oduniyyad Caliphate and the Burgoignac merchants look for a trade route west. The government of Yueguo hasn't reconnize that name as official since 1922 and msot member-states of the League of Nations use the official name of the country.
Geography
Government
The Republic of Yueguo is an asymmetric federal republic of 11 provinces and two special districts. The power held by each provinces is based on their population, economic output and various historical precedent centered on the principle of majority rule.
The federal governments has four branches :
-The State Council, a unicameral legislature made up of provincially elected members. It makes federal laws, approves treaties, give it assent on war déclarations, elect the President from it’s member and hold impeachement powers over most federal offices. A Chancellor is picked by the President to serve as head of the Council and oversea the day to day operations of the legislative body. The Chancellor hold a veto and a tie breaker vote.
-The President act has both head of state and indirect head of government. He represent the state, enact foreign policies, appoint the State Minister, nominate the chancellor and Grand Secretary and hold the right to be consulted on all internal policies. Officially, it holds no internal executive power over ceremonial duties, but in practice the State Ministry works closesly with the President.
-The State Minister is the head executive of the governement. He is nominated by the President and approved by the State Council. He appoints the Ministers and officers who enforces the federal laws and administer policies. The State Ministry is also charged with overseeing internal policies and policing the lower ministries.
-The Grand Secretariate, the judicial body charged with nominating Supreme Court judges, interpretting laws, and overturning those it finds to be contravening the constitution or the legal principles of the country. The Supreme Court is part of the Grand Secretariate but act mostly independantly. The head of the body is the Grand Secratary. He’s nominated by the President and confirmed by the State Council.
The President serves a eight-year term and may only serve once in the office. Members of the State Council serve for the same eight-year term, but without a term limit. All other offce (Chancellor, State Minister and Grand Secretary) serve at the President pleasure, making the lenght of the tenure in office highly variable.
The Republic of Yueguo has no political parties and operate under an unofficial clique system where representatives with similar interest will united for set period of time in a political alliance to serve said interest.
