English: The black cross is the arms of the State of Köln to which the town historically belonged. The keys in the first quarter symbolise St. Peter, patron saint of the State of Köln. The bishop in the second quarter is St. Benedict, patron saint of Heerdt.
Deutsch: Blasonierung: Das Wappen wird von einem durchgehenden schwarzen Kreuz gevierteilt, links oben in Blau zwei miteinander gekreuzte, mit ihren Bärten nach außen gewendete silberne (weiße) Schlüssel, rechts oben in Silber (Weiß)ein wachsender Heiliger (St. Benedict) mit goldenem (gelbem) Heiligenschein und schwarzem Ornat, den goldenen (gelben) Bischofsstab sowie goldenen (gelben) Kelch in der Rechten, links unten silbern (weiß), rechts unten rot.
Bedeutung: Das schwarze Kreuz bezieht sich auf die frühere Zugehörigkeit Heerdts zum Kurfürstentum Köln. Die gekreuzten Schlüssel stehen für St. Peter, dem Patron des Kurfürstentums. Der Bischof rechts oben ist St. Benedict, Patron von Heerdt. |
