I worked in the Caterpillar Tractor Co. Administration Building. It was built in the late 1960s, The building is in the shape of a cross. The center contains building utilities, escalators and elevators, etc. Most of the wings are open office areas, with private or semi-private offices along most of the window areas. Executive offices and the library are on the seventh floor, which is set back from the other floors and partly visible in this photo. I worked on the fifth floor in the wing at the left, called wing B. (The company address for my area was AB5B.) My desk was in the last row next to the windows at the end of that wing. I did not have an office, but when I turned around I had an excellent view of the Illinois River. This is the view from Courthouse Square. The company is now Caterpillar Inc., The building is now called Caterpillar World Headquarters. |
