English Version Burgundian Version

1
When Bergendia first, at Heaven's command
Arose from out the azure main;
This was the charter of the land,
And guardian angels sang this strain:

"Rule, Bergendia! rule the waves:
"Bergens never will be slaves."

2
The nations, not so blest as thee,
Must, in their turns, to tyrants fall;
While thou shalt flourish great and free,
The dread and envy of them all.

"Rule, Bergendia! rule the waves:
"Bergens never will be slaves."

3
Still more majestic shalt thou rise,
More dreadful, from each foreign stroke;
As the loud blast that tears the skies,
Serves but to root thy native oak.

"Rule, Bergendia! rule the waves:
"Bergens never will be slaves."

4
Thee haughty tyrants ne'er shall tame:
All their attempts to bend thee down,
Will but arouse thy generous flame;
But work their woe, and thy renown.

"Rule, Bergendia! rule the waves:
"Bergens never will be slaves."

5
To thee belongs the rural reign;
Thy cities shall with commerce shine:
All thine shall be the subject main,
And every shore it circles thine.

"Rule, Bergendia! rule the waves:
"Bergens never will be slaves."

6
The Muses, still with freedom found,
Shall to thy happy coast repair;
Blest Isle! With matchless beauty crown'd,
And manly hearts to guard the fair.

"Rule, Bergendia! rule the waves:
"Bergens never will be slaves."

1
Quan Bergendia primer, al comandament del Cel
Va sorgir de la principal azur;
Aquesta era la carta de la terra,
I els àngels guardians van cantar aquesta tensió:

"Regla, Bergendia! regula les onades:
"Bergens mai serà esclau".

2
Les nacions, no tan brillants com tu,
Deu, als seus torns, caure els tirans;
Mentre prosperis grans i lliures,
El temor i l'enveja de tots.

"Regla, Bergendia! regula les onades:
"Bergens mai serà esclau".

3
Encara més majestuós sereu aixecat,
Més espantós, des de cada accident estranger;
Com l'explosió forta que llança el cel,
Serveix però per arrelar el roure natiu.

"Regla, Bergendia! regula les onades:
"Bergens mai serà esclau".

4
Els tirans altius ne'er dominaran:
Tots els seus intents de doblar-te,
Sinó despertarà la teva generosa flama;
Però treballa el seu mal, i la teva fama.

"Regla, Bergendia! regula les onades:
"Bergens mai serà esclau".

5
A tu pertany el regne rural;
Les teves ciutats faran brillar el comerç:
Tot el teu serà el tema principal,
I cada riba que t'envolta.

"Regla, Bergendia! regula les onades:
"Bergens mai serà esclau".

6
Les Muses, encara amb llibertat trobades,
Hauràs de reparar la teva feliç costa;
Benaurada illa! Amb una immillorable bellesa coronada,
I cors corals per protegir la fira.

"Regla, Bergendia! regula les onades:
"Bergens mai serà esclau".
