In 1828 the Crown-Governor's treasurer (and by extension the Crown-Governor's Treasury), was renamed to the Ministry of Finance, with a staff of fifty accountants, auditors, and staff. The creation of a Tariff Office in 1846 became the first subordinate department of the Ministry of Finance.
