The Belrac Caldera was formed around 74,000,000 years ago when andesitic magma pierced the earths crust and came into contact with surface water, resulting in a Surtseyan Explosive eruption along the coast of the Belrac plains in southeastern Levantia. The explosion was so intense that samples from the period show ejecta as far away as southern Kuhlfros. It is estimated that the explosion created 2,800 km3 of ejecta. The volcanic ash was so thick that a it is attributed to contributing significantly to mass extinctions in Levantia and Alshar. It led to a volcanic winter with a worldwide decrease in temperature between 3 to 5 °C (5.4 to 9.0 °F), and up to 15 °C (27 °F) in higher latitudes. The resulting caldera walls were formed of the cooling magma and are rich in granite deposits. The ash formed rich Andisol soils that blanket the area today known as the Kingdom of Dericania.
