The Corcoran Institution is a Kiravian quasi-governmental educational, scientific, historical, and cultural institution best known for operating a consortium ten admission-free museums in the Kiravian capital, Kartika.

History

The Corcoran Institution was made possible by Séamus Corcoran, a Fiannrian chemist and natural philosopher best known for pioneering several early methods for the refinement of handwavium ore. Though he never visited Great Kirav himself, he read about it in a book once and declared it "pretty cool", and subsequently bequeathed 600,000 talers to the Confederate Republics of Kirav for the establishment of an institution to disseminate useful and edifying knowledge and educate the citizenry of the nascent republic.

Finance & Governance

The Corcoran Institution is a semi-private organisation receiving some sponsorship, oversight, and financial assistance from the Government of the Kiravian Federacy, with which it enjoys a close relationship. It receives an annual subsidy from the federal budget to defray general operating costs and is a prolific recipient of federal grants for specific research and educational programmes. However, the majority of the Institution's funding comes from its endowment and from private donations.
