Breeds of Horse: Difference between revisions

While there is no internationally accepted definition of the term "breed", the Burgundian Breed Registry defines a "breed" as a genealogy of horses that have a distinct true-breeding characteristics over 6 generations; its members may be called "{{wpl|purebred}}". In most cases, bloodlines of {{wpl|horse breed}}s are recorded with a {{wpl|breed registry}}, the most complete being the "Burgundian Breed Registry". Outside of [[Burgundie]], the concept is somewhat flexible, as {{wpl|open stud book}}s are created for developing horse breeds that are not yet fully true-breeding. Registries also are considered the authority as to whether a given breed is listed as a "horse" or a "pony". The breeds and types listed here are those that appear in the Burgundian Breed Registry.
