The Pelaxian Armed Forces are in charge of guaranteeing the sovereignty and independence of the Pelaxia, defending its territorial integrity and the constitutional order, according to the functions entrusted to them by the Constitution of 2008. They are composed of: the Army, the Air Force, the Navy, the Space Force and the Corps of Emergencies and Disasters, as well as the so-called Common Corps.
Pelaxia is one of the most militarily powerful nations of Sarpedon. It also occupies a prominent position in the structure of E4, which it joined in 2023. It also has the oldest Marine Corps in the world and the oldest permanent military units in the world: the 45th Agrilan Regiment and the 1st Halberd Legion Regiment.
History
During the 15th and 16th century, Pelaxia evolved into one of Sarpedons's foremost power with the voyages acquiring vast lands in Vallos. During the reign of César V and Carlos II, Pelaxia reached the peak of its power with the Pelaxian Empire spanning 3.4 million square km of the earth's surface. By the mid 17th century this power had been weakened by the Kindred Wars along with financial problems, and the lack of reforms.
Organization
Command
The commander in chief of the Armed Forces is the Federal Chancellor of Pelaxia; with the ex officio rank of Capitán General in the Army, Navy and Air Force. The Pelaxian Constitution of 2008 states in article 62(h) that the Chancellor shall have "supreme command of the Armed Forces"; however under article 64, all official acts of the Chancellor must be countersigned by the Prime Minister of the Government (or other competent minister) to become valid.
The Prime Minister of the Government, as the head of government, is responsible under article 97 for "civil and military administration and the defense of the State", and thus bears the ultimate responsibility before the Parliament, and the Pelaxian electorate.
The Minister of defense is in charge of running the Ministry of defense, which carries out the day-to-day administration of the forces. The Prime Minister and the Minister of defense are civilians. No provision in the Constitution requires the Government to seek approval from the Parliament before sending the armed forces abroad. Since 2025, this has been expanded even further with the Smart Defense Act, which gives the Prime Minister powers for emergency military deployment abroad and support of federal forces internally by declaring a state of exception in the event of an explicit threat to national security.
The Chief of the Defense Staff directs the Defense Staff and is the senior military advisor to the Minister and the Government. The military leadership of the three military services are: the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff of the Navy.
Current Deployments
Current missions
As of April 2026, 96,000 soldiers of the Pelaxian Armed Forces and the Federal Civil Guard are part of the Operation Cimitarra where Pelaxia has an active role in Takatta Loa. According to the National Security Department of Pelaxia (DSN), these are the current missions of the armed forces and civil guard:
- Stand Alone Missions
- Operación Cimitarra (2026–present): Invasion of the region of Akanatoa to stabilize the Kindred region and topple local warlords.
- Missions with the League of Nations
