Education
Meireles was born in 1961 in Yelmo de Piedra, Albalitor. Meireles is half Pelaxian and half Kelekonian; his father was born in Malentina to a Kelekonian family. In Malentina, Meireles is affectionately known as Babush, a word in Kelekonian meaning a young loved one.

He completed the mandatory military service in 1987 and later practiced law briefly from 1988, before entering politics full-time.
