Retainer Party (Urcea): Difference between revisions

The Retainer Party aims to be the primary pro-Monarchy campaign arm in the [[2038 Urcean institutional referendum]] as its primary purpose. It additionally functions as an organized bi-partisan opposition to the majority [[National Pact (Urcea)|National Pact]] elected in [[2035 Urcean Concilium Daoni election|2035]], and seeks to preserve's [[Urcea]]'s welfare state and the present [[Constitution of Urcea]].

The official coalition between the Organic Caucus and [[Union for National Solidarity (Urcea)|Union for National Solidarity]] in the [[Concilium Daoni]] has no official title beyond that of "His Most Christian Majesty's Loyal Opposition". The name "''Retainer''" comes from the official phrasing of the [[2038 Urcean institutional referendum]] answers, which includes "Retain the Monarchy" as a referendum answer. "Retainer" has become the most popular and widely used term to refer to the group, but "Pink Coalition" - from the [[Social Labor Party (Urcea)|Social Labor Party]]'s red and Union for National Solidarity's purple - has also been used in some publications.

The [[2035 Urcean political realignment]] dissolution of the [[National Social Union (Urcea)|National Social Union]] into the [[Union for National Solidarity (Urcea)|Union for National Solidarity]] and [[Social Labor Party (Urcea)|Social Labor Party]] was a result of rival factions within the former party. While the two factions largely solidified around two opposing political philosophies - [[Wittonian Socialism]] for the Union of National Solidarity and Democratic Socialism for the Social Labor Party - agreements on some issues remained between members of the two parties. Chief among these was a belief in the extant [[Constitution of Urcea]], a belief challenged by the merger of the [[Republican Party (Urcea)|Republican Party]] into the new Social Labor Party. In September of 2037, the Social Labor Party voted to adopt republicanism as part of its official party platform over the objections of a significant minority group within the party. For much of September 2037, public disagreements began between party members, creating serious threats to party unity.
