Taisgol, officially the Independent City of Taisgol (Tierradorian: Siteu Indapendóq le Taisgol, Pelaxian: Ciudad Independiente de Taisgol), is the capital and largest city of Tierrador. With its metro population being almost 21 million, Taisgol holds the distinction of being the most populous city in Tierrador, with the second most populous being Prisamarina at 8.4 million. It is one of the most populous cities in Crona as well, and it holds a very powerful position in the culture and political sense across the continent. Taisgol is a major cultural, financial, high-tech, entertainment, glamor, and media center across Crona with a significant influence on Cronan commerce, health care and life sciences, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, dining, art, fashion, and sports.

The current edition of the Woqalate Charter, which was ratified following the Woqelee reinstatement in 1989, categorized Taisgol as an "Independent City", making it the only first-level division in the country to be classified as such. Prior to this, the subdivision was an independent group of third-level divisions, known as parishes. The downtown area of the city is situated amongst the meeting point of two rivers, where the Río Platino ends and merges with the Río Solo. Its position on the basins of both rivers, along with its warm climate earn the city the nickname “Sunshine Basin”. It is the capital of the Taisgol Region, and the parish seat of Taisgol Parish and Río Solo Parish. It is one of the most culturally diverse cities in Crona and in the world, encompassing close to 250 languages around its many boroughs and streets. the city is the most densely populated major city in the Woqalate. Taisgol's population of 21 million inhabitants is more than double the population of Qabór, the nation's second-most populous city. Taisgol is the geographical and demographic center of the Wečas Mountains Megalopolis and the Greater Taisgol Area, the largest metropolitan area in Tierrador by both population and urban area. Taisgol is one of the world's most populous megacities. It is considered an Alpha++ city, one of two Tierradorian cities to be ranked as such, the other being Qabór.

The city hosts all three branches of the Woqalate, the Qangreč (legislative), the Crown (executive), and both the Imperial and Tribunal Courts (judicial), and the governmental buildings that house most of the Woqalate, including the Palacio de Prosperidad, the Qangreč Hall, the Tribunal Hall, and multiple executive departments and agencies. Taisgol contains the most historic sites out of any city on the Cronan continent. Sites such as the Palacio de Prosperidad, the Taisgol Tower, Phašo Gardens, the Río Solo Cathedral, Taisgol Observatory, which was considered the birthplace for Tierradorian space exploration, and multiple others are what make up the historical landscape of the large city. Taisgol has many museums, galleries, libraries and cultural venues, including the Museum of Tierrador, Tierradorian National Gallery, Taisgol Natural History Museum, Library of Taisgol, and numerous theaters on the Platino District of the city. Important sporting events held in Taisgol include the Qopá Terranóq Final (held annually at National Stadium), Savoqan Tennis Championships and the Taisgol Marathon.

Etymology

The name "Taisgol" was derived from a Pelaxian mistranslation of the Qabóri word taisagola, which roughly translates to "lower valley".

Crime

Taisgol's crime rate in 2030 was 2,643 per 100,000 people, the second-highest in Tierrador, only behind Qabór. During the Walakee State, Taisgol experienced major rises in violent crime, especially throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Throughout this point in time, Taisgol earned a reputation of being one of the most dangerous cities in not just Tierrador, but the entire Cronan continent. Taisgol's biggest criminal justice struggles have changed little over the last 50 years, and statistically reside with homicide, armed robbery, gang violence, and aggravated battery. Taisgol has attracted attention for a high murder rate and perceived crime rate compared to other major global cities like Urceopolis and Alstin City.

Violent crime rates in Taisgol usually depend on whatever neighborhood in question. For example, the neighborhoods of Tasokee, Kolkalee, and Goa Terra, which anchor the southern end of the city limits, typically see violent crime rates up to ten times higher than other neighborhoods. It is estimated that there are over 104,000 gang-affiliated residents from over 55 reported factions. It is widely believed that most of the crime seen in the city is derived from illicit drug trade, which, ironically, skyrocketed during the reign of the Walakee-led police state. Taisgol has a long history of public corruption and media suppression, which, in most situations, has attracted the attention of the Imperial Government. The Conniegate scandal in 2015 saw 64 TCU-affiliated politicians, 14 of which were actively serving in the Taisgol General Assembly, were removed in the middle of a session and charged for allegedly taking illegal campaign contributions over a 7-year period. Most corruption cases are settled and prosecuted by the Imperial Court, due to convenience.
