Águasmaresias (lit. 'tidewater') is one of the nine administrative districts of Alahuela and is recognized as the city's main tourism center. With an estimated population of 275,846 people as of the most recent census, it is the third-most populous district in Alahuela. The high density of population not only in Águasmaresias, but also the other eight districts and Alahuela as a whole, puts the district among the most densely populated regions in the country.
