Maulana Darwesh is a Umardi-born businessman active in Audonia. He is founder and managing director of Audonia Gold Unlimited, a company specializing in the trade of gold and other precious metals. Several Audonian governments accuse him of being the mastermind of a continent-wide gold smuggling operation, he was convicted in Tapakdore of defrauding the state of ƒ400 million through fraudulent sales of mining equipment. Darwesh is known to have strong ties to Deng Darro's network and previously was a partner in Darro's Nautilus Enterprises. Darwesh is known to have friendly relations with high government officials and political party bosses in many Audonian countries. He currently resides in Kandara after relocating from Daxia; he holds dual Umardi and Daxian nationality.

Darwesh graduated from the Hamawand State University in 1986 and took over his father's gold trading enterprise, renaming it to the Hamawand Gold Emporium. Using a contact at the Hamawand Mining Bureau from his university days, Darwesh was able to buy gold from state mines at highly reduced rates and resell it in the international market for a sizable profit. The scheme was discovered in 1992 and a criminal case was opened against Darwesh in the Hamawand High Court, Darwesh transferred control of Hamawand Gold Emporium to his sister and fled Umardwal; in 2035 the case remains open but buried in the judicial archives of Hamawand. He resurfaced in Tapakdore as a supplier of heavy machinery to the Tapakdore Aluminum Corporation, he reportedly sold heavily refurbished draglines disguised as brand-new to the company, netting a ƒ400 million profit in the process. When one of his 'new' draglines collapsed and killed two TAC employees, Darwesh fled the country while the investigation was ongoing. The businessman who had sold him the draglines invited him to settle in Daxia and work at one of his telemarketing companies, Cintranex Limited. At Cintranex Darwesh is allege to have 'made a killing' by selling fake jewelry at outrageous prices to elderly Daxians. Darwesh left Cintranex after falling out with Darro over a lack of profit sharing. After acquiring funding, in 2004 he co-founded the multi-level marketing company Conglomo from which he was forced out by 2010 due to irregular financial handlings.
