Etzil, officially referred to as The First People’s Kingdom of Etzil, is a sovereign nation found in the southeast region of Crona. Etzil has a landmass that encompasses ___km^2 and a large population of 204 million people. A significant portion of the population is centralized to the larger cities west of the country. The capital, Tlālōcān, is the second largest city and is home to the royal family. It is also where the federal government operates from. The largest city within the country is found is Syxx and it is home to a population of 20 million people. Syx is the economic center of Etzil, and the city is among the largest within the continent.
Etzil is a constitutional monarchy, where the government is divided into three branches, the executive, the legislative, and the judicial. The executive branch runs on a dual executive system. Majority of the executive power is held by the tlatoque (king). They then bestow and oversee the power of the cuäuhtlahtoh (prime minister). The prime minister is voted by the public and then confirmed by the Senate. Conventionally, the king oversees foreign and defense policy. They are the commander of war and have full operational command of the national military forces in Etzil. The king usually grants the prime minister the powers to operate the day to day functions of the government. The prime minister is usually granted the power to oversee domestic and economic policy. The legislative branch is divided into three chambers; the Senate, the National Assembly, and the War Council. The Senate and the National Assembly are representative chambers and are voted in by the public. The War Council is filled by all the military commanders of the Etzil Armed Forces, and are responsible for the conduct of wars as well as the prosecution of war and peace. The judicial branch is represented by the High Council. The judges in the High Council are appointed by the executive and confirmed by the Senate.
The land in which Etzil was founded was home to many indigenous people. During the late 12th century, four city-states had risen to be the local power in the region; Etzli, Syx, Tecolotl, Solactl. By the 13th century, Solacti had become the strongest of the city states and after a military coup, Solactl would seek to exert more power in the region. By the 14th century, The Solacti controlled the region through the other cities and were heavily involved in ritual human sacrifice and cannibalism. The Solacti would participate in the Flower Wars. The Flower Wars were battles with the other cities and smaller tribes. These battles were to determine skill and honor. The goal of these battles was to capture warriors who would be sacrificed later back in Solactl. Around 1% of the local population are sacrificed annually in these public rituals. Toward the later end of the 14th century, major anti-sacrifice movements started in Etzil and Syx. Soon after a major war between the cities found the destruction of Solactl. Etzil became the new power in the region and led to major religious reforms on the acts of human sacrifice and cannibalism.
It was not until the 17th century that explorers from Caphiria arrived on Etziltec shores. Through non-violent terms, Etzil would become a colony of the Caphiria. This mutual relationship would allow Etzil to modernize at a rapid pace while still being able to govern themselves. Caphiria would gain exclusive trade rights to the region and enable the smooth entry of cultural missionaries to influence the public. Rising tensions arose within Etzil due to a traditionalist movement advocating a reversion to the older ways of life and the Latino Block (a pro-Caphiria political group). Some major incidents were committed in the name of this issue, which brought about talks between Etzil and Caphiria about true independence. In 1737, Etzil gained its independence from Caphiria and transitioned into the modern iteration of the kingdom.
Today, the First People’s Kingdom of Etzil is one of the most developed countries in Crona with a strong economy, an educated populace, and grand infrastructure.
