The Dominion of Takatta Loa is a federated state in Vallos occupying a large portion of the isles of Naduka. It is comprised of five nations and a supranational religious order, with the nation of the Nolun Maka serving as the central government. As of early 2038, the Administration of the Falu Maka has been dissolved by the Kalaokatu Marianne Nakulu in an aggressive attempt to end slavery. Takatta Loa covers 240,600 sq km (92,910 sq mi) and boasts a population of 45,963,874 people, a slight majority of whom are Loa. The rest of the Dominion is comprised of Romany, both integrated and not, Jews and foreign nationals. The Dominion encompasses western half of Naduka, the majority of the Katalan Mountains, the islands of Ka and Bilak and the eastern half of Latinia. The Dominion has a GDP of $1.658 trillion and a GDPPC of $36,076.
The ancestors of the Loa people first appeared in the isles around 3,300 BCE, having migrated from western Vallos. At this time, much of the island was covered in rainforests and the extent of the Loa people encompassed the entire isles. Around 2,500 BCE, the first writing system emerged and a few surviving texts detail the ancestral Loa as a primitive yet still highly religious people. The rituals still performed today appear to be very similar to if not identical to the modern state approved practices. It was simultaneously during this time that the Loa began to settle and farm more extensively, abandoning their shifting agriculture and swine herding. They also began to use pigs as beasts of burden and draft animals. Loa population flourished and much of the current root bridge techniques and living architecture of the modern Loa was developed in this time. The Bridge of Lovers was grown in this time. It is unknown how long arboreal architecture has been around but references in early texts seem to suggest that it has been practiced since prehistory, with the Temple of the Moth confirming this.
During 1500 BCE, a large wave of Romantic and Latinic peoples migrated to the isles and over the course of 500 years they managed to displace the Loa to Nolun Maka and deforested the majority of the island. At this time, the Loa were still using stone tools and weapons, leading to their massacre on the battlefield. They were also decimated by the introduction of unfamiliar diseases that the Romany and Latinia people brought over. Around approximately 923 BCE, the First Incarnate Kasan Molu was said to have conversed with a swarm of Profitis skorotoloa and composed the Book of the Moth, detailing the role of the Incarnate in Loa society. He routed the forces of the Romany and Latinia at the Katak Nuolak (Gate of Katak) and successfully defended the Nolun Maka for the following 41 years until his death.
During the year 204, the Empire of Eshel invaded the islands. They faced very strong resistance from the Romany and Latinia. The then Kalaokatu, Nagandaha, met with the Eshelian commander and coordinated with him to help conquer the Romany city of Basilla. The Loa soldiers were equipped with iron weapons and were led by Nagandaha against the Romany. Under her leadership, they managed to secure Eshelian control over the lowlands. Nagandaha planned to conquer the East Fane but succumbed to tuberculosis beforehand.
From 240 CE to 958, a series of wars were waged against the Romany strongholds in the modern day territory of the Maokala Mina, led by the Second, Third and Fourth Incarnates. By 958, the Fourth Incarnate Malagdu had united the Kazoa Maka and Nolun Maka into one empire. Malagdu subsequently wrote the Madakan (the Book), which detailed the exact nature of the Nagalu, the pantheistic divinity of the Loa religion. This document led to a religious debate as to which of the Incarnations was the most holy of the Nagalu. Previously, all insects and arachnids were seen as equally divine. During this time, called the Schism Period, numerous religious orders emerged, the only ones that survive in the modern day being the Bilak Mina, the Maokala Mina and the Ki Ih Mina.
Simultaneously, the Loa began to encroach into Eshelian dominated areas, gradually coming to control the areas surrounding the Nakai'i river. This lead to somewhat strained relations with Eshelian settlers, who felt that the Loa were pushing them out of lands that were won for them. The Loa population began to rapidly expand, fueled by more land and agriculture practices imported by Eshel.
The Dominion of Takatta Loa is a theocratic federated parliamentary elective monarchy composed of five self governing nations; the Nolun Maka, the Maokala Mina, the Kakuluo Mina,the Dekulu Falu Maka and the Fakaki Nakoa Romaani. The government is divided into three branches which are the parliament, the monarchy and the high clergy. All members of the government are required to be part of the clergy. The parliament consists of 101 representatives, 22 of whom are required to be of Romany descent, 76 of whom are required to be Loa and 3 of whom are required to be ethnic Jews. The monarch is called the Kalaokatu and is elected by the parliament and serves until death or removal. The High Priestess is the head of the clergy and is also elected into office by the parliament.
The role of the parliament is to pass and repeal laws based on the submitted requests of the people the govern. The monarch has no outlined role within the Decree of the Dominion, but can make divine commands which can be overturned by the parliament. In practice, the monarch serves as a mediator between foreign countries and the Dominion and can control the economy to an extent by mandating that certain goods must be produced. The decision is often made with great deliberation between economists as to ensure that the Dominion is not driven into a recession. The role of the High Priestess is to administer justice and to govern the clergy. She also reigns for life or until removal.

An exact number of seats in the legislature are based on the ethnic and religious make up of the Dominion, which changes based on the yearly census. There are 76 seats reserved for the Loa, 23 for the Romany and 2 for the Jewish population. The reason for such a disproportionate number of Loa is that the slaveholders represent their slaves.
The Dominion is divided into four different nations, each of which is self governing and semiautonomous. They all submit to the Nolun Maka as the supreme, divine authority.
Fakaki Nakoa Romaani
The Nagula, which is translated as "God", is the pantheistic deity of the Loa and the Integrated Romany. Nagula worshippers believe that every thing within the universe is an aspect of the Nagula. There have been numerous theological disputes over which aspect is the most representative. The various orders of the Loa believe in a wide array of arthropods ranging from moths, mantids, beetles, cicadas and crabs. The Romany believe that a syncreticised version of the Abrahamic God called Yava, derived from "Yahwah", to be the most representative aspect. One universally agreed upon aspect that is deemed to be the second most representative are trees.
The idea of the universe being one singular entity has formed the cornerstone of Loa culture, with collectivism and egalitarianism being thought of as unifying the Nagula and gaining a godly nature through unity. Any form of deviation from societal harmony is viewed as attempting to demolish the Loa's divine nature through "selfish heresy", and is punished. Despite this, the Loa are still inclusive of people who merely differ from the societal norm so long as they work for the benefit of everybody else. Romany culture is much less focused on this, preferring to embrace individuality and uniqueness as following the will of the Nagula.
The Dominion of Takatta Loa boasts a population of 45,963,874 people according to the census. Its population consists of a majority of the Loa, a minority of Romany, Jews and foreign nationals. The Dominion worships almost exclusively the Nagula, but there are many government approved sects and a small Jewish population. In addition, foreign nationals are free to worship their own religion.
The Loa comprise a slight majority, with 28,359,713 members, or 61.7% of the population. The Romany are split into two separate groups; Integrated Romany who make up 22.7% (10,433,799 members) of the population and the Enslaved Romany who make up 13.7% (6,297,050 members) of the population. Additionally, there are an estimated 25,000 to 50,000 "Wild Romany" who have escaped from slavery and live as nomadic swine herders in the Low Fane. The Dominion has chosen to ignore them due to a documented respect for the forest which the Loa hold sacred. People of the Jewish faith make up a small minority of 1.8% of the popultion, or 827,349 members.
Divine Harmony is the Loa belief that through elagatarianism one can ascend to divinity. Harmony is achieved through selfless sacrifice and as such acting for the self rather than the group is thought of as heresy and an attempt to destroy the group's divine nature. The Loa people consider acting for others to be a natural instinct and are horrified by the individualistic values of many developed nations. A person is expected to work for the village and the state so that upon death they may rejoin the Nagula and its divinity.
Any deviation from Harmony is punished very severely, with any person who does not provide an adequate effort to help their peers being subject to execution, ostracization or reeducation.
The Nakanaka is the embodiment of all the negative aspects of the Nagula. The Loa believe that all harm caused by the Nakanaka and its mortal servants, the Nakani. The Nakani are thought to drain people's soul to fuel the Nakanaka. Diseases are thought to be sent by the Nakani to weaken people and drain away their soul. As such all non Instituit affiliated are also priests so that they may break the Nakani's hold through modern medicine and Loa rituals. The Loa still hold Nakani Trials against anyone accused of being a Nakani. Everyone found guilty is strapped to a tree and and covered in honey to entice ants to come and consume the honey and the accused Nakani.
The superstition surrounding Nakani has been widely criticised since historical times for being a means to eliminate political rivals and a way to legalise murder. There has been 12 recorded instances in which an accused Nakani has indeed intentionally killed someone, and all those times have been cicada agents trying to foment disease. The High Fane has officially outlawed Nakani hunts and has enacted numerous programs to educate people on proper sanitation and that illness is the cause for death, not witches. This has had a marketed effect, with the number falling from 32,089 people being executed in 2030 to 2,019 people being executed in 2036.
There are many superstitions surround how one can ward off against Nakanaka witchcraft. One of the most common are flowers in the hair of women. It is thought that flowers help to guard against evil magic seeping into the ear. Totems are often made out of human bones adorned with sacred patterns and symbols. It is thought that the tip bone of a human thumb with overlapping circles carved into it, then rubbed into a turmeric root and placed into a leather poach will protect a baby from harm if worn until it is weaned of the tit. Larger and more complex charms are very commonplace even in educated Loa populations and are becoming a trend in Romany cultures. The government provides charms and totems to hardworking individuals. Seminal fluid of elderly men is often given to young men and women to help ward off Nakanaka witchcraft. All research done by the Dominion has proven that disease is the cause for most "witchcraft", yet the Dominion still distributes such items and substances to placate the population.
Cuisine in the Dominion has been primarily influenced by foreign trade, religion and region. Food in Loa dominated regions make very heavy use of pork, yams and spices, while working in the constraints of Nakoa customs that prohibit consumption of insects and impure animals such as birds, reptiles and amphibians. Cuisine in Romany region's feature aspects from Loa culture, such as the prohibition of animals that consume insects, while still retaining ancestral Romany cooking customs, such as a heavy use of dairy, bread and rice.
Pork, yams, spices and coconut feature very prominently in Loa cuisine, with nutmeg, mace, cumin, cardamom and chili peppers being the most commonly used spices. It is taboo to cook without spices as it is thought to invite illness. Food almost always consists of pork and/or yams. These are considered the staples and compose the vast majority of Loa cuisine. Spices exist as a form of folk medicine with numerous rituals existing to purify food before consumption. It is a common phrase that "If it does not burn, it is not clean".
