The Austral Coscivians or Deep South Coscivians (Kiravic: Ravatūrix Koskem, Biþnidéskax Koskem), also known as the Cosco-Sydonans are the dominant ethnic group inhabiting the Sydona Islands in southern Ixnay.

History

Austral Coscivian history begins with the Fourth Crusade, when Crusader forces led by the Elamite Order conquered the islands of Mar-Kśaver and Manētuva and established a Crusader state thereupon.

Distribution

Austral Coscivians inhabit most parts of the Sydona archipelago. They are demographically dominant in many parts of the outer islands, particularly Mar-Kśaver. Austral Coscivians can be found on the main island of Yerduran in varying concentrations, being most numerous in the Destransar hinterlands and in pockets surrounding a few other castellated mediæval cities. They are least numerous in the majority Thrakoslavic nothern areas of Yerduran and the other island whose name escapes me.

Culture

Austral Coscivian culture blends Pelian and pan-Coscivian heritage with influences from other neighbouring peoples of Sydona.

Onomastics

Deep South Coscivians have an inventory of names that reflects the many different cultural influences in Sydona over the centuries.

Almost all Austral Coscivians have Latinate forenames, most of which are Biblical or hagiographic in oridin. Many Austral Coscivians have Coscivised surnames origins in other languages, indicating Pelian, Urcean, Thrakoslavic, or Leinish ancestry. Examples of common Coscivised Urcean names include Haríntyn (from Harrington) and Kóllyn (from Collins). The morphemes -haya- and mani usually indicate a Pelian etymology.

Deep South Coscivian surnames commonly end in the suffixes -ryn, -syn, or vyn. While these suffixes are not unique to Deep South Coscivians, they are exceptionally frequent in Sydona.
