County Voneın is a countyship in the Jade Coast region of East Æonara State on the island of Æonara.
History
Co. Voneın was named for the Vithinjan island of Vonein. The name was proposed in 1727 AD by the lieutenant governor of East Æonara, Angus O'Day, who as a young mariner had participated in baiting Burgundine clippers in the waters near Vonein.
Government
Like all other countyships in East Æonara, Co. Voneın is governed by a seven-member Commission and administered by a County Executive elected by the Commission from its own membership. As of 2025 AD, six seats on the Commission are held by members of the Renaissance Party of East Æonara, and one is held by a member of the SDKF.
Society and Culture
Like other prosperous coastal cities in Æonara, County Voneın boasts a rapidly expanding multicultural landscape.
Æonaran Coscivian and Kiravic Coscivian are the main languages spoken in the county, with a high frequency of bilingualism between the two. Since Kiravian reunification, Kiravic has become more prominent due to the influx of mainland Kiravians to AC colonies in the county's growing suburban tracts and the use of Kiravic as the working language at the military and aerospace sites. There are large communities speaking South Coscivian, Umcaran Coscivian, Kalvertan Coscivian, Costratic, Antaric, Insuo Loa, and Indokwé as well.
There is a large Muslim community in the county, comprised mostly of Muslim South Coscivians and immigrant Loa Muslims. Muslims are estimated to account for around one fifth of the Prevarda city population. The Islamic presence in the county dates back to the colonial era, but owes its size mainly to military emigrants who settled in Æonara after their defeat in the Kiravian Civil War and the subsequent Islamic Renaissance Insurgency.
Economy
The aerospace and defence industries are the main driver of economic growth in Co. Voneın. The Jade Coast Spaceport, owned and operated by the Federal Spaceflight Authority, is located on a large tract of land in an unincorporated area of the county, and includes five launch sites for unmanned rockets and two for reusable manned spacecraft, which take advantage of area's predictable weather and position close to the equator to minimise launch delays and the amount of energy required to enter orbit. It is currently the leading Kiravian spaceport for commercial satellite launches and for manned space missions, especially logistical support for the FSA space station Starfield. The spaceport is the largest employer in the county after the Kiravian Defence Executive and the county government, and has drawn many highly-educated, high-income workers to the area. Láderkar Airbase, operated by the Kiravian Airforce, abuts the Jade Coast Spaceport, and supports Kiravian military space launch activities.
Tourism is also an important sector.
Although the county has experienced rapid property development and suburbanisation, significant chunks of its land area remain devoted to agriculture. Citrus, beef cattle, and farmed crustaceans are the leading agricultural products.
