The Erudite University of Alahuela (Erudite) is a public research university in Alahuela, the capital city of Cartadania. Established in 1310, Erudite is the oldest institution of higher education in Cartadania and has the largest enrollment of any university in Sarpedon. The University is one of the most prestigious Cartadanian universities and in the world, commonly ranking first in national rankings and in Northern Sarpedon. It is located on a sprawling campus that occupies the entirety of the University quarter in the Giulia district of the city, approximately 16.05 square kilometres (6.20 sq mi)

Having been established so early on, Erudite was the primary place of education for many Caphirians in the northern imperium after its establishment and even moreso after Cartadania was formed. The university played a major role in setting the curricular pace within Cartadania, and other large universities (primarily those in Alexandria, Santiago, Verona, and Victoria) follow a model similar to Erudite.

Student life

Erudite is a research university that pulls students from countries all around the world, coming from various ethnic, socioeconomic, and personal backgrounds. It was a member of the former ARGUS system, where the institutions of higher learning within Burgundie, Cartadania, and Yonderre accepted students from these countries at reduced tuition rates and typically with other incentives such as housing coverage and reduced citizenship timeline. The university spends a lot of time and resources on making the campus as comfortable but productive as possible, which in turn has given Erudite a matching retention and graduation rate of 93%.

Housing

Erudite's residential college system is the network of on-campus housing across the schools campus, with some spillover for off-campus housing that is still subsidized by the school. Dependent on the school for services, the residential buildings have a limited degree of autonomy and each of the actual dormitories have a residence hall director who resides in the building and oversees its operations. Although the university did not pioneer on-campus housing in Cartadania (that distinction goes to sister university, Merced), it does have the most extensive network of on-campus housing in the country, with more on-campus residents than some cities, numbering nearly 30,000 students.

Erudite has twenty-six standard dorms, some with living-learning communities and some without, as well as seven alternative housing options. Students have a choice of any of the dorms, which are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis and are typically similarly priced. Each of the dorms typically have a theme and its own activities, including social events and other programs to get students involved on campus. The architecture style can vary between residential areas, and some can be architecturally similar to the college they're nearest to (the four dorms near Seydel College of Engineering were actually designed by the classes entering during the design phase). It is commonly criticized for its over attention to detail for certain buildings on campus, notably the almost fairytale style housing of the College of the Performing Arts and the resort style housing for the College of Sciences, both of which house living-learning communities.
