Place, officially the City of Place, is a city in the province of Examplia, within the country of Example. With a 2030 census population of 123,123, Place is not only the political capital of Examplia but also the economic powerhouse of Example. Its strategic location on Riveria Delta makes it an ideal hub for shipping goods, while also promoting tourism through its many beaches.

History

"Establishment of city and the reason"

Ex. The city of Place traces its history back to 1810, when it was founded on the banks of the Riveria River, established as a hub for trade and commerce. Initially, Place functioned as a small port city with a population of XXX.

"Further development of city"

Ex. As XXX moved into the industrial age, Place began to further expand its port, allowing more cargo to pass through its terminals. It also established a cargo hub for rail and trucks not far from the port, creating multimodal transport options that further expanded the city's commerce sector. This early investment allowed the city to mold itself into the hub it was rapidly becoming, strengthening the city's economy.

"Transition to modernity"

Ex. Today, Place is a vibrant metropolis that still honors its rich history and traditions, while embracing modern technology and progress.

Geography

General geography information. This could be the area of the city and any of its neighboring municipalities should any be adjacent to it, as well as the distance to the nearest major municipality.

Ex. Place has an area of 500 square kilometers (190 sq mi), situated centrally within the Riveria Delta. It borders the city of Everton to the north, Townville to the northeast, and Cityville to the west. Located about 25 kilometers (16 mi) from Capitalia, Example's capital city, many people commute between the two cities. Place also serves as the county seat for Examplis County, the most populous county in Examplia.

Topography

Ex. Place is located on the delta of the Riveria River, not only allowing the city to ship goods into the country's interior, but inversely allowing goods to pass from the interior into the greater world. Its coastal geography is quite flat and lowlying, creating an increased risk of flooding in the city. An intricate network of stormwater systems and pumps help the city stay dry.

Climate

This is largely based on the greater topography of the area and latitude. Please dont put an alpine city on the equator unless you plan on placing it at an elevation near the peaks of the Andes.

Urban area

Discuss the urban area here. This could be as simple as just detailing the city's central business district, or if the city is entirely urban, that can be elaborated here.

Parameters

Various Template Parameters
Parameter Meaning Suggestions
settlement_type The type of government you are creating, whether it be a city, county, state, prefecture, or otherwise. If you are creating a capital city, use {{wp|Capital city}}. For a general city, {{wp|City}}. For a more specific type of jurisdiction, you can use names like "Charter city", "Independent city", "Consolidated city-county", etc. Just make note that if you are going to use an external wiki link (i.e., {{wp|}} template), the settlement type actually has a page. For entities that don't have a clear cut definition or explanation, try {{wp|Sui generis}} {{wp|municipality}}. In the case of state-level jurisdictions, instead try linking back to your page on administrative divisions (e.g., [[Administrative divisions of Example#Provinces|Province]])
subdivision_type, subdivision_type1, and subdivision_type2 These are the country in which the city is located in, the administrative division within that country the city is in, and the local government to which the city is subordinate (e.g., county, comarca, local government area, etc.), respectively. If you are creating an independent city in a similar sense to the United States, you should either remove subdivision_type2 or set its value to None or Independent city and italicize. The same is true if you're make a capital city that's not subordinate to a regional government or first level administrative division like a state or province. In this case, you'd remove both subdivision_type1 and subdivision_type2. Note: You may add more superior jurisdictions by counting up to 9 (i.e., subdivision_type and subdivision_type1 to subdivision_type9).
seat_type and seat This is mostly used for state-level and county-level governments or whatever your equivalent is. In the case of state-level governments, you'd input seat_type as "Capital" (or whatever regional equivalent is) and seat as the name of whatever municipality the central government offices are located in. For places with two separate seats of government (e.g., The Hague is seat of government of the Netherlands while Amsterdam is the de jure capital, use seat_type and seat for the first seat of government and seat1_type and seat1 for the second.
government_type This is pretty self-explanatory, but it refers to the style of government the municipality operates under. For cities, these are usually Council–manager, Mayor-council, and City commissions. Counties and their equivalent jurisdictions usually follow the same rules as cities, but this will depend on where in the world you're basing your localities on. Some uncommon types include the Sole commissioner form of government. Just make note of your links.
governing_body This is the actual government itself, such as a City council, city commission, board of supervisors, etc. Be mindful of those links, seriously. If you're planning on making a separate article for your entity's governing body, consider making this a link
parts_type and parts This is pretty self-explanatory as well, but this refers to what you call the divisions of your entity and either a list of those divisions or the number of each type I don't really have any suggestions here (I mostly only use this for county-level governments to count municipalities. See this for what I mean)
unit_pref If you are not planning on using metric units, make sure you set this to the unit style you want to use. Please be consistent unless one of your cities randomly is different from the rest. To change the unit order to imperial (metric), enter imperial. The default display style is metric (imperial). However, the template may swap the order automatically if the subdivision_name equals some variation of the US or the UK.

For the middle east, a unit preference of dunam can be entered (only affects total area). All values must be entered in a raw format: no commas, spaces, or unit symbols. The template will format them automatically.

population_density_km2 or population_density_sqmi Even though you can set your unit pref, I created this template with metric units assumed to be understood. If that's not the case, you can change the ending of the parameters that say _km2 or _m to _sq_mi, or _ft, respectively. You can also use _acre, _ha (for hectares), and _dunam (if you're making a middle eastern entity) for area parameters only. None
postal_code_type If you have a proper name for your postal code system (e.g., "ZIP Code" for the US), you would put that name here. Consider mapping out your postal codes before actually allocating them in the postal_code section that's tied to this. For example, if your country's administrative divisions are grouped into regions and uses a numeric postal code system, consider assigning the first one or two digits to a region or state and so on. This can in turn help you not only with the city but also fleshing out your country too. (For example, I have PEP Codes). I don't have experience with alphanumeric postal codes, so consider researching Canada's or the UK's postal system.
area_code_type Similar to the postal code, if you have a proper name for your area codes, that would go here. None (Mine are assigned arbitrarily right now, so I can't really help her)
iso_code This is specifically for jurisdictions that have no superior government between them and their national government. Usually a state-level government, a capital city, or a city that is equivalent to a state-level government (e.g., Hamburg). This is the ISO 3166 code, meaning it is a combination of the country code and a two- or three-letter abbreviation of the entity. For example, Mexico City has an ISO 3166 code of MX-CMX, New York State has an ISO 3166 code of US-NY, etc. etc. Create a simple system where there are no duplicate abbreviations or conflicts with other countries' ISO codes. It should be CC-EE, that is, country code-two or three letter entity abbreviation
