the National Defence Policy of Wealdland is the coordinated set of doctrines, strategies, and principles which define Wealdland's approach to national defence in civilian and military matters. Its primary object is the defense of Wealdland's sovereignty, internal cohesion, and social system. It is distinct from national security policy, which deals primarily with non-existential threats to Wealdland and its citizens posed by minor actors. The core of the NDP is a military-first policy which prioritizes the distribution of economic and technical resources and focus in policymaking to the Wealdlandic military and infrastructure which is critical to its operation. This is necessitated by Wealdland's deliberate and heavy limits on the development of the consumer and market economy, as well as its environmental policies, which stymie overall economic growth and Wealdland's soft power influence, requiring what power Wealdland does have to be carefully marshalled for maximum efficiency. The military has access to industrial techniques, natural resources, and complex technologies that are otherwise largely absent and prohibited: for example, if public transportation is excluded, the military has access to more motor vehicles than all other state agencies and the public, combined (a figure which becomes even more imbalanced if only vehicles with internal combustion engines are considered), has exclusive use of Wealdland's synthetic oil production, and has the sole right to exploit Wealdland's small petroleum and natural gas reserves.
