The Imperial Administrative Police (Aciriano: Polizia Amministrativa Imperiale) is the official intelligence, security and secret police agency of Aciria, responsible for the covert acquisition, processing and analysing of information from around the world that is relevant to Aciria's internal and external security interests.

The agency is assumed to be headquartered in the Il Bastione in Trossera along with the other branches of the military, but due to the agencys secretive nature it isn't confirmed. A part of the Imperial Army, the PAI enjoys vast autonomy in its operations, reporting formerly to the Director of the PAI, a title which was merged with Head of Imperial Defense, and the Emperor of Aciria.

The current form of the PAI was formed in 1962 after the rivalry between the PAI, tasked with domestic intelligence, and its sister organization, Polizia Amministrativa Internazionale, tasked with foreign intelligence over resources and areas of responsibility began to interfere with their performance, following in the merging of the two agencies into one.

Formation

The PAI was founded on 6 March 1795 by Giovanni I as a response to the rampant corruption and instability that had plagued the Acirian nation for near 200 years. Originally formed as a gendarmerie to garrison areas prone to revolts to deter further revolting, the first director instead decided to have his men infiltrate the key elements behind these revolts and put the fires of revolution out before it even manages to be started. Highly successful, Giovanni I officially changed the PAI from the gendarmerie to the secret police it's been since.

Following the increasing importance of foreign intelligence in the early 20th century, PAI resources were stretched thin due to being involved in both domestic- and foreign intelligence operations. As a result of this, Emperor Lorenzo established the PAI's sister organization, Polizia Amministrativa Internazionale, which was tasked with operations on foreign soil while PAI was responsible for operations on domestic soil. The two organizations quickly started bickering over resources and where the area of responsibility of each organization begins and ends, which eventually lead to the merging of the two organizations in 1962.

In 2011, the Head of Imperial Defense Cesare Fusillo merged the title of Director of PAI with the Head of Imperial Defense.
